Hello,
I've owned a 2000 E220 CDI with very low miles for a while now which has been meticulously maintained. This morning a Engine Fan Warning came on, followed by EL. Power Control warning. The immediate thing that I noticed was the the engine fan was running at full speed even at very low temp and starts immediately at start up. This had not happened to me before. I feel that the El. Power Control confirms that the vehicle has gone into Safe Mode or Limp Home Mode. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
A. Kazani.

Thanks Silverarrow for your prompt reply. I was kind of surprised by the diagnosis that my friend made who owns a repair shop. It took him a lot of time since the fault did not let the ECU communicate with his Star Diagnostic Equipment. The main box on the left hand side that houses all the ECUs etc. has about 4-5 fuses in it. One of them, a 7.5A fuse, kept blowing up. The wire going down to the engine from this fuse, was one of two in a grip that is connected to a small venturi/sensor/resistance that is in the middle of the breather pipe going to the Turbo from the valve cover. This unit has short circuited causing the fuse to blow and various other circuits to malfunction including the fan control. Anyway, the grip is disconnected now and the car is running fine, no fault codes. I'll have the unit priced at the dealer and should not take long to install.
