03 CLK 320 silver Avantgarde with Satnav and Bose. Plus L200 Mitsubishi Warrior pickup truck.
Just bought a 2003 CLK 320 Avantgarde Coupe with Comand Satnav and Bose sound. Having a problem with the radio reception: all the FM stations tune in perfectly but the sound fades in and out whilst driving and I can't tune in or locate any MW or LW stations at all. I can best describe the effect as being exactly the same as if I fully retract the external aerial on my other vehicle.

I've seen threads with similar problems on here but nothing that covers my exact problem - they seem to be usually related to other devices connected in tandem to the sound (eg phones etc), of which I have none.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have warranty on the vehicle so am sure the local Stratsone MB dealer will put it right.

i have exactly the same problem.....was told that water had got into the aeriel.....this wasnt the case however.....still cant get reception

Mine does this too. Do you have audio 20.

I can drive along listening to clyde 1, then the radio just stops, so I think someone is calling me, and nout happens. Then the radio just starts again.

And before anyone asks, this happens with other stations too, and on different roads, where sometimes it works, other times it just cuts off with no warning :(

Most posts agree the aerial connection at the rear of Comand is the most likely culprit. On my CLK, one of the spring clips in the plug was bent down and was shorting the connection. FM worked but no AM. Other experts report the wire in the plug breaks. The amps are behind the offside rear trim panel but this can be a pig to refit. Worth sliding out comand and checking the aerial plug first.
Good luck.

After you come out of the other end of the tunnel, maybe..??;)

It's booked in at Stratstones in Leeds (the gelderd Road one) on Monday 11th. I'll advise what happens on here next week. Thanks for the replies.

Check fuse 8 in the rear sam unit in the boot. (If the chassis no starts WDB209). This can be caused by a faulty alarm siren that is on the same fuse as the aerial amplifier . The siren plug sometimes gets water in it .

same problem with 1999 clk 320. I was told by the dealer that the amplifier needed changing and that since it was in the rear pillar and hard to get to it would cost about £30 for the part and £170 for the work. Decided not to bother!

Just picked the car up from Stratstones. It was a blown fuse which is now replaced (under warranty) and radio reception is perfect.
