vito 109
hi all,

i have a vito 109 with 5000 on the clock its a 06 plate,

anyone know what sort of millage you should be getting of a full tank, as i seem to only get about 350-375 to a tank, no matter how i drive it,

seems really poor to me as my mate has the transporter 1.9 85 ps model and gets nearer 500-600 toa tank, i know the vito holds 5 litre less,

any ideas or should i just take back to mb to plug in?

The tank capacity is 75 litres, 16.5 gallons. 375 miles would be 22.7 mpg if you ran the tank dry. You must be leaving some fuel in reserve, so let's say 23 mpg.

That's not far off the 109's official urban consumption figure of 24.5 mpg.

Obviously a lot depends on the type of driving and how much weight you're carrying. At 5000 miles the engine is probably not fully bedded-in either, so consumption may improve a bit.

The official urban consumption for the Transporter 84PS is 30.1 mpg. The tank is 17.6 gallons, so you'd expect about 530 miles.

I had the 111 vito and also got what I thought was very poor fuel consumption, about 27 to 30 mpg at best. I also had a transporter same as your mate and I used to get 45 to 50 mpg so I would agree with you regarding poor fuel economy.

I fitted a tunit to the engine and it made it slightly better sometimes getting 31....

Either get a dealer to look at it and hopefully try and improve or change to a transporter. Not what you want to read I know but that fact alone made me change it.

Even my ML gets 30mpg. So pretty happy with that.

For the 111 M-B quote 22.2 to 24.9 mpg on the urban cycle, 29.4 to 32.8 combined.

Still seemed crap though.:(

Whilst I would agree with your
figures MB stated 44mpg at constant 56mph. Now I do a lot of motorway miles and my Vito even had cruise at which I used to set about 65mph and drove with an egg under my foot out of 150 mile round trip 140 was motorway but I still could not improve on 30mpg. I will say though, it was constant. So if I drove like a loon it would still return 27ish.

Aerodynamic drag goes up sharply with speed (it's not a straight-line increase), so a bulky vehicle like a van can use significantly more fuel at 65 than 56.

I know quite a few people with Vitos, and most have found the fuel consumption disappointing. My point was really that the published mpg figures aren't brilliant, so this shouldn't come as a great surprise.

(I'm about to order a van for personal use, so I happen to have all the M-B Vito and VW Transporter brochures and spec. sheets here!)

what tuning boxes are best suited for my model then?

There are loads out there!! Take your pick.

I used a Tunit box from here....http://www.tunit.co.uk/vehicles-supported.php

When I sold the van I took it off and sold it seperate to a mate so did not loose out too much on purchase. The van held its value remarkably well too. I had it for a year done 15k miles and sold for £2k less than i bought it.
