Positive Thinking - Need Help Choosing the Next one...

Well you'd be wrong then.

I said I totally disagreed with you. That cannot be wrong. I was expressing my view based on a) extensive Mercedes ownership b) the number of Jaguars i've seen broken down or on trailers, and c) the influence of Ford on what was once a prestige marque.

Just because my opinion based on my hard facts differs from yours does not mean I am wrong.

Sold my XK8 conv before my 2002 SL500. The jag was never in the garage. My SL500 is never out of the garage. The jag dealer bent over backwards, the service direct director at jag used to live 15 miles from me. Even so he would drive to my house, lend me his Xk8 coupe, take mine, service it and return the following day. My Merc dealer, couldn't give a shi*t.

Buy a Jag.

Of course it can be wrong - what hard facts are you basing this on - personal experience and your impression? I had a TVR that was almost faultless but I'm well aware that the majority had problems. MB have issued numerous statements regarding their nose-dive in quality - only people with their head in the sand would still believe Mercedes are the engineering force they once were.

You can argue who has the correct facts, but Alfie said he disagrees with you. That cannot be wrong, or he would be saying he does agree with you which clearly he doesn't!

Keep the debate on something worthile eh lads?

I didn't say he was wrong for disagreeing, just his opinion was wrong - seeing as an opinion is a statement based on fact - if your facts are wrong - it follows your opinion will be.

so should I get a 911 then?

Yeah.

Or a Jag. I hear they're pretty reliable.

Jag reliability: They may not be the most reliable cars - or they may be - I don't want to get into that one; mine was great and so are two others I know of personally.

But, when you compare the Jags that have been made since Ford came along with the ones they produced before, there is no comparison. Ford saved Jaguar from a grim death (just like Aston Martin). Ask a Jaguar engineer and they will tell you the same.

personally if I had the money I'd be debating between a 911 (as above, look harder and you'll find a nice one for 25) or the jag - the xkr convertible is beautiful :)

not much diff between 993 and 996 at £25-30K.
Not sure I want something that focussed - I like my luxury.
I tested a boxster a few yrs ago before I bought the SL and thought it was too much like a go-kart for use on long journeys etc.
Love the look of either 993 and 996 and that may swing it for me.
Plus I've always wanted one so will have to get one some time - maybe now is the right time.

Get a 911. Beats the Jag on performance, reliability  and resale value. Also doesnt look like an old mans car. IMHO ;)

Lucky to have the choice I would say.

or for £25k get a C43 for daily use and a Lotus Elise for weekend fun :D
