Hi All,

This has only happened a couple of times in the last week but I thought I'd ask team... (It's a 99 320 CLK Auto.) I start the car up and put it into "D" and expect to pull away only to hear the engine rev but no movement. As if it's not engaged in D. Then all of a sudden a bit of a jolt and off I go. The same happened again today but in reverse and today was quite a jolt..!

Should I be really worried or is it likely to be a gear selector sensor or something..?

Thanks

I was going to say dirty valve block, but not when it does it in R and D, the same with the selector, not in both directions, you will need to get the codes read out.
It should not be anything terrible

there are two bolts that live inside the gear box that come loose and when they do the gear box looses oil pressure to clutch k3 and also b3 which control both foward and reverse gears , the two t45 bolts are vissible with the gearbox sump removed and located at the back of the box , near the prop coupling . hope this helps

Did you ever get this fixed? What was the cause?
Mine has done the same thing a few times now, and will be going back to MB for them to have a look. It would be nice to have an idea what the cause was before they have a look.

Could this be the problem with my 203 coupe?

The only difference with the symptoms is that the car moves a little before the jolt happens. Also, if i feather the throttle it doesn't happen at all.

Does it happen in S, or only in C, or both?
Mine does it occasionally in C but not S, and only if I push the throttle reasonably hard for a quick take off, but without kickdown coming into play. Light throttle and it never does it.

Mine is due a b service soon and is under warranty, so will get it looked at then because it really only does it occasionally. But you are right, the car will move slightly before the jolt comes.

Im sure it happens in both C and S mode.

It only jolts when moving off at a "reasonable" pace (forwards and backwards) but, not between other gears or when the throttle is feathered.

Will test and report back to be 100% certain about C and S.

Haven't done enough miles to properly test the difference between C and S modes but it initially appears that S mode is more smooth - but still sudden. I'd say a sudden surge after the car has started moving, whereas C mode is a sudden jolt after initially moving off.

Any news Malcolm?

Here's mine - cheers Malcolm

Have you checked the gearbox oil level, Local indie friend reckons could be low oil, same fault he has seen on a few 7226 electronic boxes.

Been through everything for the 203708 and nothing listed on that car that would fit the complaint, there are a couple of things, implausible fault codes, mainly to do with ESP and down changes, these codes can be cleared on STAR.

Only the same things listed for the 209308.

Where some of these thing become difficult there are 30 variants of the 722.6 gearbox,,,on faults like lose screws and valves sticking some of the late cars like the last 2 have not got these faults as they were fixed ages before.

The fluid should of coarse be changed at around 35 - 40k miles

Mine has only done 18,000, B service due soon so will have them look at then, thanks anyway Malcolm, will post result after MB have had a look.
