If i buy a set of sportline shocks, will they go in place of my normal shocks on my car or is there a world of other different bits needed ?

The car is lowered by 40mm, don't know if this makes any difference

the full sportline kit includes anti roll bars but I was talking to "someone in the know" a couple of days ago who assured me that the bars are identical to the standard ones

have a look at that link, although it's american it's still relevent.

The short answer would be a tentative "yes" but you are as well buying a set of Eibach or Bilstein shocks designed to work with the 40mm drop rather than the sportline ones which are only a fraction shorter

Hi,

The sportline shocks will fit as a direct replacement. You might be better to buy a set of Bilsteins from Euro Car Parts. The 'yellow' Bilsteins are a nice monotube damper that should take the wallow out of your car. If you want more compliance, the black Bilstein OE replacements are a budget buy that provides good value for money.

Job

Your learned friend is wrong. The sportline anti roll bars are bigger than standard ones.
Howard, you need yellow Bilstein shocks which are designed for lowered cars.

That's what I thoought as well but this guy makes a living from tuning Merc suspension systems he has both an original Sportline and one which is a conversion.

He assures me they are the same diameter bar, use the same bushes, same hangers and fittings. He says they may well be a different grade of steel but they are the same size and said unless the anti roll bar is damaged in any way there is no point in changing it.

Now, I'm only going on someone elses word and I'm more than happy to be proved wrong :)

These images are taken from an american site which documents the conversion process

In that case I'm in the wrong job :D
The sportline bars are bigger and use different bushes.
W124 anti roll bar spreadsheet

Edit..
Found this old picture of my rear bar. The new one is noticeably bigger.

Tee Hee I was only passing on what I'd been told - at least that clarifies it :)

Now, how about some really solid neoprene bushes for W124 anti roll bars?
