Hello,

I have my wifes old laptop that I was going to put on flea bay and get some pennies. Before Christmas I took some pictures and put in on e-bay (OOH after I formated the drive using some software from work that writes zeros over everything about 1000 times,..)

Anyway laptop sold, and I get it out of garage where it was, can I find the power end of the plug? nope.

Its a two pin connector that goes into the main power (9V 6.3a) but no sign of it.

I have other items with a two pin plug however its not having it at all, it trys to start for a second or two you hear the fan then it dies..

Does the power that plugs into the wall then the main convertor have to be a 'special' one.

Leaving the power in there are no charging lights on the laptop at all?

Shame as its an ok laptop for someone but seems it knows its replacement (a Mac) is here...

If the plug end makes a difference please let me know as I am searching round the house for plugs with a two pin end...

Thanks

The two pin power plug is a standard figure-of-eight power cable used with a lot of electricals, couple of quid from any electrical store

Hello

Grober you may have hit the nail on the head as i had formated it and installed XP, running XP for the first time is actually when the battery died....

Sorry I should have explained, then it was simply put away for Christmas and I had forgot about it.

I have another twin power cable but that is not powering it at all...

This is the part I have, the main power (but it isn't getting hot even..it use to get at lest warm)

this is what I have 'lost' but have a couple others that I thought should just plug in??

Sorry for forgetting the whole story...it was last yr :) if its because it went off while XP was starting for the first time? I'm still sure it should charge though?

Thanks again in advance

That is a standard IEC lead the same as used by many things,

The power supply is a chopper type and its possible that there is no output from that, do you have a meter to measure whats coming out of it

Hello

I have tried 3 leads (the lower picture) into the power box and none ave worked as yet? I doubt three are faulty? Could the actual power box ave blown some how.

Seems very odd as it was all working fine just before Christmas? Think it must be revenge for the Mrs getting a Mac...

Yes these chopper supplies do go down, do you have any means of measuring what is coming out onto the small output plug , the voltage that should be there is on the label on the front. the chances are that it will be 6v or 12 volt

Doubt all cables are faulty most likely PSU is dead, Voltage should be between 15v - 20v will say on back, need multimeter to test, or take it to local PC shop it takes 10sec's to test, I know I do alot for customers.

You can prob pickup a Multi-tip PSU for around 20-30 designed to work with various laptops, comes with interchangable heads (connectors)

Or get one from Ebay.

Thanks all,

I will give it the tech bods at work on Monday and see what they can do...

Keep you posted
