power steering fluid

i need to top up my power steering fluid but,it looks like it has oil in the container it is brown where the fluid i have brought is red. Does anyone have any ideas about this.

What does your handbook say regarding the specification of oil that may be used and what specification have you bought?

If they are compatible then you can mix them, the colour change may be due to age, heating , contamination, oxidation etc. It is fairly simple to drain and flush PAS fluid on most systems.

It usually goes brown or black once it has boiled. Should be a clean looking fluid, either pink or green

If it hasn't been changed for a few years then the brown gravy colour is normal - it was like that in both my 190Es.
