Pre facelift E63 AMG 7g+ autobox issue.

Sorry just noticed the photos
I've no idea if that is my sump pan or not, or if water has been mixed in to make some ££££
The way I use my car is 3 miles to work and back each day, then a 50 mile journey every 3rd weekend (yeah yeah I know).
I'm wondering (if this is my sump pan) if its condensation with the cold weather we've had.

I had the gearbox oil and filter changed again today, just to be sure they hadn't put the old oil back in.
No signs of contamination, but its only done 50 miles or so since Saturday.

However now I've seen the rev bounce when its not even in gear, I'm going to move on that before getting the box stripped.

Following this with interest, didn’t you say they found coolant in the gearbox, surely that’s the main problem?
I'm not sure I believe anything that place told me tbf.
It's obviously something I'll get investigated, I'll have the oil changed often.
If it turns out to not be an air leak, then I'll be having the box stripped anyway.

Did you have the gearbox oil changed by another garage? Did they mention water/coolant contamination? Are we barking up the wrong tree ?

Also have you needed to add coolant to top up the “leak”
Very strange.

No the coolant hasn't moved.
Different garage changed it this morning, the same place that did my original gearbox oil change.
Spoke to him at length as I waited whilst he did the oil change.
No signs of contamination.

What’s with all the pics of coolant then in the other change ?

No idea.
I saw the pan and the oil that came out today, and it looked clean.
Also no coolant loss.

The plot thickens, but I'll keep the thread updated.

I've booked the car in for the gearbox strip on Thursday, so this gives me a little time to look at other possible air leak problem.
It might not be that, If it's not I'm going to call round to the place that did the map, and see what they think.

If there were in fact metal shavings in the oil then surely they'd have been attached to sump magnets rather than floating / glistening in the oil as per the pics ?
Does seem strange goings on.
Good luck.

I haven't changed my transmission fluid yet, but are those poor quality photos of the sump just showing normal 236.15 ATF that is a blue/green colour, ? Depending on the make they used, there may even be variations of the Green/Blue type.

It certainly does look blue green, but I'd have imagined a non MB fluid that was certified for use and meets the criteria to be blue as per the OE fluid ?
Last pic of the sump, does look as if a pinch of metal dust has been deposited in the pan..or is it just the poor quality pic ?

@Sparkey While there are a variety of reasons your Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG 4MATIC has a rough idle, the most common 3 are a vacuum leak, an issue with the spark plugs, or a problem with the ignition coil. 34%. of the time it's. Vacuum Leak. 21%. of the time it's. Spark Plugs. 15%. of the time it's . Ignition Coil, have you had these checked pal?

I'd fitted a filter spacer kit to the car in December, I thought this may have been the source of the (possible) air leak, but after returning it to standard, it's still the same.

I've booked the car in with a local indy, who has star, I just want them to check everything and give me there opinion on if the torque converter/wet clutch is slipping, or if it could be something else.

I just need some direction.

I had booked the car in with the gearbox specialist for tomorrow, but I've moved this to Tuesday of next week now, just so I can get the indys opinion first.

I'll update soon as I know anything.

I don't even know what a filter spacer kit even is, but where does it fit with the timeline of the issue? That sounds like it could be the cause and needs further investigation - even if it's not the kit, fitting it could have upset something.

Looking back it seems Mr Sparkey made his own in December, not sure where if fits in between the inlet side, before the filter, after the filter.
