Pre wire on a car

Hi folks,

I'm looking at buying my first merc.

A number I have seen advertised say 'mobile phone pre-wire'.

What does this mean exactly???

It means that you just have to insert the correct handset into the car.

The aerial and everything is all installed and the phone will work (car dependant) with comand and steering wheel controls.

Depends on the age of the car. For pre MY09 cars you need to install a cradle first to use the phone with the car and you need to have phone pre-wire to do this.

Post MY09 cars will have full bluetooth connectivity built into the headunit so you dont really require phone pre-wire unless you want to use a cradle and the cars external antenna.

So does that mean that if you bought one of these (having checked compatibility with handset), it would work with the system:

Yes as long as the car has phone pre-wire. You can tell if it does as it will have the connector shown on the bottom of the page you linked to above.

But you still need the cradle to plug into that connector.
