Please please help if can. On initial start my glow plug indicator comes on for approx 5-10 seconds, if I try to start the engine cranks then after a while catches and starts. I assumed new glow plugs were required so bought a set and had the garage fit them. Next morning same problem! A Mercedes fitter said try leaving the starting for 30 seconds after the light goes out, tried this, does seem to help but not much. New plugs were fitted week ago and I still have the problem only now, when the engine starts, the glow plug indicator comes on for about a minute with the engine running! What's the problem? The car is 2007 R Class 320CDI with 73000 miles on clock.

Could be the glow plug relay at fault. Any competent MB tech would have checked before changing plugs.

Definitely the relay, very common. Easy to fit yourself at top if engine. Note that the new one is different design to the old.

I didn't think glowplugs were critical on CDI engines.

On cold start definitely.

@ Colin Mckenzie

The fact the light goes out suggests a glow plug is still faulty check all were replaced.

Failing that.................

The relay can be repaired until replacement is afforded.

Thank you all for your assistance, I know now what to try next. Looks like I need to source a new relay. Once again thank you all for your assistance.
