Looking on fleabay I think people are getting carried away with what they are worth,in the last 4 weeks people have been struggling to get £400.00 for a good one but there are a lot of people trying for £1000.00 plus.

I think they will find the same as a lot on fleabay they have no chance,I notice one of our members has put his on for £1000.00 plus

I have also noticed that, and some are basic models without leather etc, beging advertised at over 1000, there just not gong to sell.. when you can easily pick up a basic & leather model for around 400-600

I agree. Yesterday I mentioned seeing one go for £720.
It was a '93 and in perfect condition other than a very small ding. It had all paperwork and s/h.

I think the recent hit in all car values has finally started to filter through.

With facelift W202 cars well under £2K you've really got to want a W201 190E.

Eg, Olly's £1500 C280 Sport and the other year 2000 C230K Sport Auto for £1700.

However, saying this the W201 is a fantastically designed car and the very fact that many are soldiering on it decent mechanical and cosmetic condition speaks volumes for this. What I mean is the 8 year old C230K that I mentioned has quite a bit of rust, a typical 190 twice this age will have much less!

Some people may prefer the classic styling and the DIY-friendly mechanics also, makes the whole ownership experience more affordable to many. The W202 is a nice car although it is currently just an 'old C-class' where as the 190 has become a bit more of an icon.

Clean, well specced and good condition 190s with service history and low mileage etc shouldn't struggle to make around £1K though IMHO.

I could not agree with you more Will I used to have a 89 190e with 57000 one owner,I now have a C-Class but I wished I had not sold my old 190e (far better car.)

I've gone full circle. I've had 190s in the past, a couple of W202s when they were still fairly new (one was less than 5 years old), and now I'm back with the W201.

I'd buy another W202, they're good cars but I think this time it would have to be an AMG.

I have had my W202 just over 18 months and paid £5000 for it and as you say I would be lucky to get £1500.00 for it now WHAT A CHOKER.

I agree, I bought mine from my father in law 18 months ago for £2750, at the time it was a bargain for a 1 owner 8 year old MB with less than 100k.....

If you've paid less than £3k for a car, kept & used it for a year and a half (without any major hassles) and get something back for it I wouldn't be too distraught :) Most new cars will lose a lot more than that, and you've had the pleasure of piloting a Mercedes-Benz

I did wonder if the W204 has filtered through to make the W203-202-201 cheaper overall. Afterall, how much are early (2001/2002) W203s now?

You can pick up a 70k 2003 C180k estate for 6.5k at auction.

Yep, how about a 100K mile 2001/2002 C180 saloon or similar. Surely peanuts now?

I don't think the W203 rusts too badly does it?

Tings are cerainly dropping in my opinion. I just sold my 190 on ebay for £607.00 last week. It was the second time it was on and was an incredibly clean car. Only thing against it was that it was a Carb model, which puts some people off.

I had it 6 months and got my money back on the car, so no complaints. I did pay £600 for it, cleaned it up well and thought I might turn a small profit, but no luck!

Earlier ones do. They all seem to suffer with spider webs under the paint and I've seen some real shockers, worse than W202 or W210.

If you don't need to sell it and it's reliable, not rusty and generally fits the bill then keep it for now would be my advice.

I'd say £5k was pretty heavily priced 18 months ago but given say £1200 depreciation per annum for 1.5 years, that's not too bad. You probably lost £1k the day you collected it.

The car market is in turmoil at the moment. Around london it's very buoyant but as one moves away it gets weaker and weaker.

What is the mileage if you don't mind me asking? Is the car fully spec'd?

76k fsh (part dealer then Mercedes Specialists) Air-Con, Alloys, Cloth Interior, Auto, 8 Disk Kenwood CD system.

There is a couple of dinks on the bodywork. I've driven 300 miles this week in her and the engine and gearbox are very smooth.

Regards,

Simon

Bit of a bargain there Ray, not quite it's true value at £260 though!

That car cleaned up and advertised properly should fetch nearer a grand without much hassle :)
