Prison for 77 year old "taking son's points"

all those who plead not guilty under oath even though they have commited robbery or murder , commit perjury .
the cornerstone of the judiciary has been lost ages ago.
it exists solely to make money from fines and not to administer any form of justice.
if this was a driving /finable case whether you are sick or not you will be paying a hefty fine.
as you said be aware of the facts first.
it is not a coincidence that if you can afford a fine you will almost certainly be heftily fined.

probably the same number as the burglars get before they can even think of taking them to court.
how many burglaries do you need to commit before you can see the inside of a jail cell?
Perhaps less than the 77 year olds previos convictions? :) I agree that our system is too soft on offenders but surely we have to be uniform. Is it okay to continually commit fraud but not okay to commit one burglary? Tough on ALL crime tough on the causes of crime. Instead we feel sorry for offenders and if we dare to imprison them, then watch out. TV programs, top barristers, journalists by the score, all out to convince anyone that will listen that Joe Bloggs is innocent of the offence because of............... If all else fails they will then go to the European Courts who have power to over-rule the laws of our land. Rant, rant

Make imprisonment a term of punishment, not nourishment :D

Regards
John

As the law has to do nothing to prove who was driving, you are expected to incriminate yourself, I would guess this practice of taking points for others is extremely widespread.

I would say I was driving for a member of my family if it came to it. I have a Portuguese driving licence... no points system there. So if I can help I will. This whole points system has nothing to do with road safety.. it's to do with making money for the government.. so they still get their money and my family still get to drive.

Of course I wouldn't lie in court, but I have great distaste for the self incriminating requirement of the points system being peddled in the name of safety.

When the law may be flawed the way it seems to be why should an ordinary citizen get hammered by the establishment by a disproportionate amount compared to the offence in hand?

Help your family I say because the Government surely won't, as we can all see when this 77 year old ended up in jail! What is that all about?? UK jails are well packed as it is without sending old men to court to telling a porky!
