Car
An SLK R171 with lots of toys and a Golf Plus for fishing.
OK, here's another potential first for me. If I stop buying tax disc holders, fishing floats and the like, ignore the sandwich trolley at work for a couple of months I could just about stretch to either of these. First two being for similar money, second and third I would have to bid for at some point with the DVLA.

YE55 SLK ?
or
UPO2 TZY ?
or
MY05 SLK ?
or
MY55 SLK ?

The first, third and fourth are universally transferable I guess, the second being fairly specific. That said at 50, once my baby arrives neither she nor the registration will be going any where for many, many years

Call me old fashioned but UP02TZY would look like PORTZY only if the 2 were an R. So onthat basis only you (& members here) would know recognise it for what you intend it to mean. I voted for MY55 SLK.. but only if you have an slK 55 ??

Why not just go for your intials & numbers .. thats still for life / any car . James May did an article a few weeks back in the telegraph (or times I cant remember ) discussing the many ways that people try to make reg numbers look like names .. but dont quite . A guy near us called Jimmy had a ferrari with J1MNY for a reg number ...hmm neary but not quite. get my drift. Sorry if I'm going on a bit . at the end of the day though you must buy what you feel is right &t o hell with what everyone else thinks. ;)

Hi Portzy,
Out of those you have put up I go along with everyone else.

Have you considered the older style plates which are still available from the DVLA at very reasonable prices.

I have no idea of your initials or links with numbers I am merely throwing another thought into the pot.

Does your wife drive and does she have a car?

We have K8,(the car) K9 (the van)and K10 (son's car) which we have had for a good few years. The first two have our initials, my christian name, the wife's christian name, then the surname. The last number is my son's and the middle initial is different.

I have waffled on a bit just to give you an alternative suggestion which you might have already thought of and dismissed.

Good luck with your decision,
John

But U PO2TZY does, if you're not playing with the font or altering the letters just minor spacing you are normally OK.

Personally I like reg's that make a name with a little imagination, but it is a very personal choice.

As you may have guessed, my vote is for U Portzy, me Jane

I like U PO2TZY too !! :D

You left off the "None" option.

I hated having a "cherished" number plate. I used to have a co. car with DYR 6 on it. Loathed it. The thing with a private plate is they take AWAY your privacy.

Each to their own but I can think of at least 100 better things to spend money on. Bit Footballers Wives too, IMHO.

Speaking as someone who has 500SSL on a 500SL I would vote for one of the SLK regs, probably the MY O5 SLK, not personal but would probably enhance resale.....but then I just junked my SLK320 so I would be thinking of ways to protect the humungously rotten residuals.......have fun with whatever you pick.

Because you get recognised & spotted much quicker, I've had private plates for ages and they just seem to attract a lot of attention. People always happen to know where you've been. It was a nightmare at times when I was at Uni :o but I guess having a distinctive car doesn't help much anyway!

I'm going to put the cat amongst the pigeons here (sorry) ;) but don't you think personalised plates are just a bit naff.

I can't help thinking it's the modern day equivalent to an open shirt and a great big gold medallion.

I agree that standard plates date the car but if that bothers you it is possible to get a plate which is a non-standard configuration but doesn't spell something sad like "A TW4T"

Phew, got that off my chest
