Hi guys, just had my neighbour ask me to cast an eye over his sisters A170,it's making a puffing noise with evidence of diesel fumes coming from the right hand side of the engine.I suspect a leaking injector, but can't see where they are.

I have said I can give him a couple of hours to see if I can diagnose a fault for him,so what I would like to Know is where are the injectors and what do I need to remove to get to them.Any hints advice welcome.
cheers martyz.

Remove the airbox to see which injector is leaking. If its number one or two you will have to remove the turbo to get them out. They are clamped in pairs. The injectors can be a real pain to remove if stuck. Not a pleasant job as often they have to be removed with a special tool.

olly, had a look this afternoon, after what seemed like an endless amount bolts to remove finally got to the injectors,no muck or signs of diesel leak anywhere, there was some blow marks and slight build up on the inlet ports on the block and some evidence of a blow on
the underside of the upper casing.I have cleaned the deposits off and cleaned the two orange insert seals.on re-assembly I have come to a halt as I found the hose from the turbo to the Maf unit had come away at the Maf side. looks to me as if the plastic locating ring is broken as I can't get it to fit,do you think the two faults found would cause the puffing sound?now for the dumb question which way round does the air filter go, Blanked end to maf or air in? should of taken note:o

Run the engine with the intake off first. You will hear the leaking injector.

Before you put it back together. Run the engine with the intake off. You will see the leaky injector if it has one.
