I am collecting an ML270 CDI tomorrow near Derby. It has a blowing injector seal.

I live in Cornwall and plan to drive the ML home (~300 miles)

Is their anyone in the Derby area that could repair a leaking injector seal on a Saturday? Or on my route home - Birmingham, worcester, gloucester, bristol etc

I'm taking tools with me and I'm reasonably competent - I'm a construction plant fitter by trade, but being away from home and my workshop is always a bit scary.

Difficult to say as you or garage might have problems getting the injector out,I don't
want to alarm you but search "black death" on this site, hopefully it's just started weeping
and can be removed easily.I am presuming you have not seen the vehicle yet, good luck.

not seen ML yet, yes I know all about 'Black death'

Would an engine with a known chuffing injector survive a 300 mile trip...what's the worst case scenario?

injection system compensates and increase injected diesel volume - bore wash?
damage to seat of injector/bore by escaping gasses?

I personally think it's too far,but where there's a will maybe.You will only know
when you see it,any chance of getting it lifted?

Buy it, drive it 1mile, break down, phone aa. Job done.

Leaking injector seals can be anything from simply re-tightening the clamp bolt to a failed clamp bolt needing thread repair works (see my signature for the link).

You might want to ask why they haven't had the repair done, it could give a clue to the extent of the work needed.

Hopefully its a clean up job with new MB sealing ring, clamp bolt, injector grease and whatever else I've forgotten.......

:) Good luck
