Hi everybody!

Just to start a debate, if you were in the market for a six seater, luxury motor and the choice was an R320CDi Sport or an Audi Q7 3.0 TDi S line which would you choose??

Specs are very close, as well as the price.

My opinion is the Q7 has a better Wow factor, but the R320 has better use of space. Opinions please:D :D

A friend just bought that Audi in a horrible beige colour.. looks ok-ish has all the extras but i prefer the R class. Still the Touareg 2007 v10 is nice too. Massive Boot Space in the Audi

I'll have a GL (V8 diesel) please :)

I saw my first Q7 this week-end, I cannot get past the looks of that grill, the front end just looks wrong. Then when I look at the R-class I don't like the looks of the rear quarter windows!!! To me buying a new vehicle is all about buying something that looks right.

I have looked at the specs of both the R and the Q7 and they are very close. What one do you find to be the most attractive?

That's the one I would recommend ;) ;)

I was considering the R-class, but was turned off by its looks, did you know that the R-class COMAND is an inferior version to that fitted to the E??

The GL is allegedly BIG.... I have not seen one but is it worth considering?

Could you please test these vehicles and let us know your experiences?

Good luck,
John

You're surely reaching (and possibly exceeding) the limit of what's practical on a day-to-day basis in the UK with these cars? They won't fit into typical parking spaces at the supermarket/Ikea/pub, and even my C Class was borderline too wide when I had to park it outside my daughters student house.

I love driving a big SUV whenever I'm in the US, but they just don't work here.

your right , its a struggle , but sitting in one of the safest cars on the road makes it worthwhile :D

The GL is not that huge though compared with van-based MPVs like the Viano and Caravelle. E.g. the mid-size Viano is only 4" shorter, and it's fractionally taller and wider than the GL.

My colleague has just got a Q7. Cannot get it into our relatively spacious underground car park.
Wasn't the R class deisigned in the US for for US sizes?

There's a scary feeling of invincibility when you drive a big SUV, which I know is why many 'Moms' drive them.

Interesting (as you drive one) how small the X5 looks in the US - it's dwarfed by most other SUV's. I had a Dodge Durango and found an XC90 parked next to it one morning, and even that looked small. BMW really need the bigger X5 in the US.

I know what you mean , but in a country where a normal car is a fiesta/focus style thingmybob , the X5 is huge. The parking spaces are too small , streets are too small. Those hideous high kerbs are mighty close to the 20" wheels and that not to mention car parks with only 1.9m clearance :O

BUT SUV's are involved in more accidents and have a higher kill rate tahn other classes of car. i.e. the safety is only a perception, the reality is different.

Your wish is my Comand John!!:D

Q7 booked for a week today, just waiting to hear back from MB with regard the R Class.:bannana: :bannana:

The Q7 is very colour sensitive... I didn't like it until I saw one in black, then it suddenly looks "right".

The R class is nice to drive and pretty unoffensive compared to some SUV's, but does feel "big" behind that dash IMO.

Tough call... I think a LWB R class, with the 3seat bench (coming soon apparently) would be my choice.

Agree Ian, Q7 only looks good to me in black or dark grey.

Same with the R though, no dull chrome please:eek: :D

I can't help but think you are saying...

"That Bella Emberg, prefer her in a black bikini or red?"

Between the two, I would go for the forthcoming 7-seat R class (I assume this will have 3 individual middle row seats).

Saw both Q7s and R-classes in Germany last week, but, frankly IMHO, the Q7 looks like a boat.
