Ps, my spacer tube and bolt is also the same length as yours

This is how I would assume they go...

^^This is the correct assembly sequence^^. It obviously had already been done at some time and the someone got it wrong. Have you checked the other side?

So, as I thought, some bozzo has put them in in the wrong order. :wallbash::wallbash::doh:

The next problem I Currently have is that I don't have enough gap to get them in the correct order. I am guessing that this is because the other side is still (incorrectly) done up and therefore i can't move that roll bar up enough to get everything in properly.

edit. Jack the other side of the car up so the weight is off both front sides. The rollbar will find it's own level.

Thanks Druk. Now I know that what I thought should be the right order IS the right order, I'll undo the other side and see how it goes. Be back to report later.

Sorry for the poor pictures, not much light in there and only an iPhone to aim in the dark, it thanks to Druk for being online tonight.

Am about to take it for a test drive now. They have been like that all the time I've owned the car so will be interesting to see how it feels now that it is properly supported and hooked up.

Yes my tubes wouldnt come apart so I had to cut them off... but I didnt try that hard as id already ordered the kit.

I ended up getting the small angle grinder out for the nearside one as it was covered in gunk and the nut seemed welded to the bolt so just cut through the bugger.

Right im off for a spin, back later. Thanks again to jay and Druk for your input on here.

Right then, back and pleased to report a marked improvement when she rides the bumps and potholes / manhole covers etc on the roads. Hardly any rattles and the steering wheel feels much less effected when the car rides any undulations in the road. It's been raining all day today here and although there is not a drop falling from the sky now, folk must really thought this guy is out of his mind driving around with the roof down on a day like today!

It's still not 100% so I'd be interested to see what you folks recommend would be the next component to look at.

The steering damper's next. Goes between the drag link and the N/S chassis extension. Two bolts, easy job, big gain in steering feel. Then we can do steering box adjust. :D

Try Wunderpartz for the bits. 01302 623293 Brendan.

I've been using the SL daily for about 3-4 days now since the dry spell.... i can tell you, changing / fixing those drop bolts was the best thing ever! All the silly rattles and most unmerc type sounds have disappeared!

I really want to tackle the steering damper next.
