I am about to replace all 4 brake discs and pads

Where is the best place to buy please and what should I expect to pay?

Secondly - the hand brake is virtually non-functioning - is this generally just an adjustment - or are there parts I may as well order at same time as pads and discs?

Mileage = 66,000

Many thanks in advance

Handbrake is likely to be adjustment, if you're changing the rear discs it'll need resetting anyway.

If you are going replace the rear discs then it makes sense to replace the small handbrake shoes and springs at the same time[ unless you know they have been replaced recently.] MB parts would be best but OEM parts such as ATE/PAGID will be fine also if your budget is tight. Avoid obscure "German sounding" brands from internet only companies- lots of inferior far east sourced pattern parts out there.

I haven't used them as yet but there are a few sites that are meant to be good, such as Wannapart and Seekpart24, but I've heard that you have to be careful to make sure you get the specified brands.
Please let us know how you get on- I'm going to be shopping for the same in the near future, plus the backing plates too...

ive just replaced all four of mine...dreadfully low and spongy pedal....bought from e bay drilled and grooved discs made in uk really well made items.....rememberto change the hoses too...ive now got a terrific pedal and the stopping power is excellent.....good luck!!!

I replaced all my discs (Texta front and Pagid rear) and pads (Pagid) ordered from Euro Car Parts. Very cheap and working brilliantly.

I even purchased a hand brake kit locally and found the originals after 100 000 miles were still perfect - just needed adjusting which is easy.

I doubt that changing disks and pads would fix a spongy pedal. Changing hoses and bleeding would however.

I had all disc brakes and sensors on my 500sl R129 replaced 6 months ago by an independent Mercedes trained mechanic and paid £240.

When replacing my rear discs and pads I found the main dealer with discount to be very reasonable. Around £110 or £120 if I recall correctly.

I agree the main dealer the prices were surprisingly low.
I have the silver arrow setup which Is pretty much the best oem setup for the r129.
334 fronts and 300 rears drilled. I think I got the rears for £50 and the fronts for £70 each from the dealers IIRC. If people remember I was saying the breaking power and feel was not very good compared to the s600. Now I would say the breaking power and feel is far far better.
The pads are red stuff rears and ferodo DS on the front.

yeah and change the hoses for braided ones I think its about £60.

front disks and brake done and fitted orignal and genuine cost £150 with friendly indy locally in nw london
