R129 Creaky hard-tops?

Am just about to sign on the dotted line for a 94 500SL but am a little worried that there are a few creaks from the hard top during driving - is this normal?/can it be resolved with a bit of silicone?

They do creak a bit - MB sell a special lubricant for the seals that helps though check the windows are aligned properly - does it creak with them down for example?

I've had 3. They all creaked a small amount. Anything substantial may represent a problem. Get it checked by someone who knows before you buy if possible. Where are you/the car based?

Me neither, I'm not quite sure what you mean by creak, certainly my hardtop makes no noise whatsoever (except when engaging/disengaging from the lugs when being raised/lowered. When driving with it on you'd be hard put to know it wasn't an ordinary saloon.

Have I badly expressed myself here? What I meant to convey was that driving with the hard top on is no different to driving a car with the top more permanently afixed!!

Silcone grease on the seals seems to help...........
