R129 Hard Top Roof Shuttle

MB shuttle

Hi jay, there is one for sale at the moment on e-bay.

Yes ive seen it on ebay, I think it will go for silly money as its been marketed very well! and also taunton is a mission of a drive from me to fetch it.

Jay my uncle will most likely be able to source you one in Germany ill contact him if you like :) and I should be collecting lots if lovely wheels off him at the same time

well you learn something new everyday...didn't even know these existed, can they then be stored on the shuttle?

We'll you could, but I'm not sure it would be too good for the roof.

Went cheaply to be fair the last one on eBay nearly fetched 900 6 months ago

I wasn't ware of that one, just the one that went for £250 which I missed.

Anybody got an idea of what they cost new?

i think they are 1000.00 + from the dealers if you can still get them dont qoute me on that though.

I didn't think they were available any more.

I appreciate they are a cool original accessory but most people seem to go for a roof hoist or just get a helper to assist with putting the roof on/off. Once the hardtop is vertical on a standard trolley it's easy to move and compact to store.

If that is the case then I suppose the price makes more sense.

My problem Bill is that I can no longer lift anything, my wife is too short, and I live in the middle of a field. I have only one neighbour a few hundred yards away who is a very busy farmer. Getting the roof off means I have to organise two (preferably three) people and teach them how to do it without braking/scratching/dropping it. I did get a pulley one but don't really have sufficient head room. So for me, a shuttle would be wonderful.

They are excellent Ian and having collected mine last night I can see why they are so valuable... They are not just a pulley system on legs... its created perfectly for the R129 and it just works like a dream... really great accessory.

I wonder whether you could simply use one of these with an appropriate cradle for the roof. Much cheaper, dual purpose .... and it folds away for storage.

I had this in mind too.. but no way... the shuttle is double the height and a totally different kind of setup... the hard top can be lifted off and away and then all the way down to the floor... and engine hoist wouldnt have this versatility...

Its also very nimble to move around unlike an engine hoist.

Yup I can understand that, hope you manage to find one!
