Hi,

I thought I’d share what I’ve found to be a useful method of locating where wind noise comes through on the driver’s side window of my R129.

BluTak. I’ve been moulding it and positioning it in various locations. After some trial I eventually found that I need a tapering diameter strip running vertically from the lower trailing edge of the glass up to half window height.

Armed with this knowledge I was then able to deduce that the glass was angled too far inwards towards the centre of the car. I used a Vernier and confirmed this was the case by comparing to the silent passenger side glazing with the door held on the first latch position.

I hope this little helps you.

How do you adjust the 'toe in' of the glass after determining where the noise is coming from?

Triv,

There are two adjusters which you access by removing the outer door moulding. The whole glass/runner/motor assembly is mounted on a sub-frame inside of the door. These adjusters move the lower edge of this sub frame transversely in relation to the car.

A job I'll leave until the weather improves.

Paul

The professionals use a smoke generator.
Put the blower motor on full speed and close all the doors and windows.
Run around all the door and window edges with the smoke nozzle and you'll see the escaping draft disturb the smoke.
