hi
the rear view mirror on my r129 is slightly to lose for my liking, it moves fine from left to right and stays in position but when angling the mirror up or down it often bounces back after a little while (my wife has decided to start driving the car once in a while and this issue popped up :-) )

the glass mirror sits tightly inside the plastic surrounding but i think the spring or whatever holds the unit in position is slightly loose

i found a link describing how to remove the mirror but not sure if this applies as it is for a w202.

how do you remove the mirror from the ceiling and have a peek inside it?

thanks!

Remove the light cover and unscrew the 3 or 4 bolts from memory. The whole cast alloy assembly comes off. 5 minute job.

i will give it a go and let you know

the link from the mbworld.org site says something about 2 spring clips, you need to pull it down firmly by holding it down by the base and then pry it open with a flat screwdriver

The electric RVM was phased out in 1995 I think?

That's about right, I have it in the 500 but not the 60.....about the time the beancounters came to dinner iirc:D

Believe it went in the 96 facelift (along with the locking door pockets).

finally got round doing this job this weekend, it was actually a lot easier than i thought but it was nerve wrecking pulling out the mirror in the first place, 1 hour later popped it back in and it is as new
