I am offering the pano roof from my 96 129 SL for sale. It is in metallic green/black with java (mushroom/beige) interior, and has a roller blind.

It will require paintwork due to the not uncommon bubbling at the edge of the rear quarter pillars (roof is raised, showing a 1p piece for reference)

and the slightest of soft indentations on one D (?) pillar.

If you need to repaint anyway, this should be of no consequence. There is also a bracket missing from the driver's side, which allows the blind to rest on when pulled forward (typical over engineering by MB!). However, these brackets cannot be seen when the sunvisors are up, and don't really serve much purpose, as the blind is held in position by a central hook.

There are a few tiny chips on the lower edge of the frame under the rear window

The roof is located in Bournemouth, but can be delivered locally, or if uncomplicated and on the way to Peterborough/Hunstanton on the weekend of Saturday/Sunday 7th/8th August. I'll be travelling in convoy with a few other SLs, heading for the MBOC SL day at Sandringham.

A very expensive option when new (I've heard £4k ish?), they don't come up too often, and I have seen them at up to £1400 on eBay. They transform hardtop driving, and I may be wrong, but I think the glass (which is all good including a working heated rear window) insulates sound better.

If interested at £900, please pm me with questions and a phone number - winter will be here soon enough! Advertised elsewhere.

I had a nasty experience yesterday, as the passenger in an SL500. Someone had come to buy my panoramic roof, and after the pleasantries, we went out in his newly acquired vehicle, as there were few things he wasn't sure about (and it's a nice place to visit!). On the way back to exchange money and roof, we set off from traffic lights about 500yds from my garage (not in a boy racer style, btw), and his 19" rims lost traction. Not too difficult in August with rain, and it looked like there may have been fuel spillage on the road.

Braking and accelerating didn't help the fishtailing. Fortunately, we missed oncoming traffic, but ended up in a tree, followed by a 180 spin, resting further up the road, on the opposite side, facing the way we came. Even more fortunately, we are both relatively okay, with only superficial (but quite painful) injuries.

Although the ASR should have helped him out (there were a few ECUs he wasn't sure about), the belts, bags and crumple zones worked as they should, and I'm thankful for the way MB design their cars.

The roof is still for sale, by the way, but all sight seeing tours are cancelled!
