R129 Soft Top Module

The tilt sensors are combined in the roof ECU on your model. My guess is that you have a tempremental door handle switch that tells the ECU when it's closed.

Hi
Is the door handle switch the same as the limit switch? Where is it located please?
I was thinking soon as you pull open handle inside or outside the car window drops but thought limit switch made the window do this?
Hopefully getting closer to solving problem, cant believe changing a battery could cause so many problems:-)

This switch must be in the door and connected to the handle, any door switch cn get moisture in them, and that makes them intermitant

The limit switch is in the bottom of the door - the lock switch is in the lock itself - they're only £15 or so.

Hi Popped into Mercs Brentford and they said as my car is 1997 only a limit switch is showing on their system not a door switch? I explained the exact role of the switch and what it does, even took printout of the the post with diagram, but the guy couldn't help me:-( If i remove the lock is there anyway i can test it? Thanks guys for being so patient and helping me out

The switch is only a make/break and easily tested.

I would use a good wet switch cleaner on it first.

Dont worry about asking questions :):)

Thanks Malcolm
Does the lock have to come out in order to test the switch? If so is it easy to take out once door panel is off? Another thing that came to mind which may not be at relevant is the pin switch for the interior lights? The lights do work and come on but is it connected to "the window dropping and going up when door opens and closes"

I don't think the window convenience feature is connected to the lights? Doesn't the pin just send a CAN signal to the dome light? The door would have to be open before the light came on and would render the window dropping useless at that point.

Malcolm's diagram is for a 129064 car - yours is a 129063 according to your earlier post?

Well as he was told nothing for the 97 car, I put up that one.

there would not be a CAN on that car, I took it to be the same principle as mine, wrightly or wrongly as I could not see a switch other than the one in the link

11 and 14 in the 163 link are the same as the 164

The SL had CAN from '96 - just don't remember whether the dome lights used it at that point.

Not sure what the dealer is on about - as you say all '97 cars have a switch of some sort - be them 063s or 064s!.

I have a video somewhere and will try and post it later.

Just opening the passenger door would confirm the correct workings.

On mine if you lift the handle nothing happens if I hold the door shut , the window only drops and light comes on when I pull the door open a few mm

You might be right - I know the puddle light is wired to the door pin - so maybe that is seperate?

I did not think to look at that, will do in the morning, but as said he can get it all from the passenger door

Had the switch in my door tested and its working fine?? Resynced windows(held button slightly longer for 15secs to make sure) again on bothsides and i hear a click in the door as well as in the roof module under back seat to confirm sync. Is it necesary to do roll bar as well as not mentioned in manual but have read it on forum.

She was fine for a few hours i opened and closed both doors about 20 times! and the windows were going up and down fine. I thought brilliant i've cracked it.......NOT!

Opened door to go out and window would not drop. Am beggining to think that the module is suffering somekind of memory loss/losing sync settings.

Maybe its time for it to go to BBA Reman to test it as i cant think of anything else???

Intermitant faults may not show up with them either.

The roll bar does have to be memorised in the same way

I will have a read over the next couple of days

Certainly puzzling!

You do get the odd glitch if you open the door too quickly - but not really a regular occurrence.

It sounds to me stats like a dirty switch more than a fault in the Roof module, I have never known the module to do this
