I would have got some switch cleaner, non drying and sprayed all of the switches inside.

When the door switches are off check for bad conections and joints on the wires.

To sync the roll bar, put it in the oposite place to where it is now, holding the switch for 10 sec at the end of the travel then do the same when you reverse it.

It does not matter if you do it first

It looks like you're losing synchronisation if the switches are OK. This could be a dodgy connection to the N52 roof module or the module itself.

This is hard to say,, if nothing is telling the window to drop then it cant, so how do we work out if its in the memory or not.

With a scope on the module and the door opened that would tell if the signal was getting through

The tumbler switch has been diagnosed as working (though only as good as the time it was tested of course) so working from that.

I think putting the roof module in diagnostic mode (STAR) and testing is beyond the scope of the OP (and myself) not having the equipment.

BBA Reman may be the only way forward if the cleaning process fails.

I get many things in here where the switch operates perfectly 99 times and then does not

but the issue is losing its function over time... not randomly... its quite consistent in that it starts to happen a few hours after syncing...

the issue is to do with memory somewhere.

Not necessarily so the door was tried several times in succession and then left, switches can do this so can bad connections

hmmm not so sure about that.. i still think the issue is with one of the modules..

My Logic is:

- All is fine
- Flat Battery
- Incorrectly Jump Started
- Issue is not random
- Issue occurs consistently X hours after leaving car
- Modules sensitive to current shocks

Module will be sent to BBA Reman for diagnostic this week, hope they find something as have looked and checked pretty much everything. Thanks to everyone on the forum who have helped me, much appreciated! Will keep you updated

SL Roof Module

Hi Guys sorry in the delay in posting this message but i have been away. I received the Roof Module back from BBA Reman and everything is now ok:bannana:
The technician who worked on my module mentioned that these units are very sensitive and are a common fault. My unit cost me £350 to repair and they give a guarantee with it too which is great. I would recommend this company to anyone who has similar problems. First port of call would definitely be star diagnostics! Thanks to all of you who assisted me with my problem

Hi Malcolm
It started initially when i installed a new battery and have now discovered that this causes problems:) The roof and roll bar light were constantly on and i could not resync windows. I took the car to Alfie and Richard and they kindly ran the star diagnostic machine on the car.

Discovered one rear latch was reading as open so think it was stuck. We removed the hardtop manually and also put the soft top up and down. She seemed to be ok but problem is that sometimes when you start the car the lights come on again so need to resync. Also now the drivers door window is in drop position and does not come up when you close door.Passenger door is fine? Have a gut feeling that the soft module may have problem. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Malcolm,
Have you sorted out this issue? My 500SL doing the same after flat battery. I was changing my power antenna and trying to figure out connections, meanwhile power suddenly stop and discovered fuse 6 in the boot has failed, replaced it but battery was also flat. Replaced the battery with new one and after all things went out of cycle. Now my issue is basically the same as yours. Please let me know how did you get on it? Or which specialist did you send your car in? Many thanks

I'm afraid you won't get a reply here, Malcolm passed away a few years ago. The OP hasn't been here in over a decade either.
