To satisfy my curiosity can anyone please tell me the the urban and extra-urban fuel efficiency figures for the R170 SLK 200k, 230K and 320. (Parkers just gives combined)

My wife is still considering one, but is not sure if the 200K is really much cheaper to own than the 320, hence the above question :)

Thanks.

Will

I can only tell you that my 200K manual is doing 32 mpg around town and 35 mpg on a long run and that is keeping close to the speed limits.

i was looking for the same information before I purchased and it was the cost of insurance for a 320 that put me off. The difference will buy a lot of petrol.

Bill

Brilliant. Many thanks :)

So with only 15% between best and worst there doesn't seem much point buying, for example, the 200K for efficiency alone. Insurance is the next thing to check........

ps. I wonder why the auto is more efficient than the manual

It depends how heavy you want to put your foot on the accelerator.

We have the 230. When we bought - at the time - it was cheaper than a 320 to insure.

In terms of mpg I'd expect them to be similar if driven the same way.

320 sounds a lot better IMO - which may lead some to drive it a bit less efficiently.;)

Gas consumption is high, idling at traffic lights and stop/go because the compressor is still on. Merc should fit start/go, I am sure the fuel consumption will be better than 20mpg.:thumb:

If you have your heart set on a 320, have you considered the possibility of converting one to LPG? I've seen a couple for sale in the past and it looks like a very neat conversion.

How many miles per year would be the question I ask.... balance that against the costs and the fun factor - I wouldn't buy an SLK unless it was for the fun factor, so to my simple mind, fuel consumption features fairly low down on the list of priorities. Otherwise a diesel focus is quite nice...... ;)

We just got a 230K auto for the wife. Our average daily commute (urban-ish) returns about 20mpg but on a long run cruising at the national speed limits and gentle acceleration 37-40mpg is easily possible.
Overall she's very pleased with it.

Did you buy an slk for the wind in your hair or worrying about the gas consumption?

Enjoy it when you can or get rid of it, if you are still worried about mpg.:D
