R170 v R129..

For someone looking for 2 seater, convertible fun, pre 2001, would you look at a R170 (SLK320) or R129 (SL320) ?

A friend of mine is in the process of selling an early Z3 and wants to "upgrade", but doesn't want to get into post 2001 road tax. I don't have any knowledge of the R170, so can't really help him myself!

Anyone got any views I can share?

IMHO there is nowt wrong with the R170 but really the 129 would get my money.

The SLK is a bit 'Hairdresser' for me but then I do prefer larger cars which is why I bought the 129, I think it has much more road presence

Go for the R170 its the cult car of the future still looks good after all these years, its all in the roof. The R129 looks very dated nowadays.
