I've been offered a Comand head unit for my SLK - just that. Couple of questions before I go further...

How do I check if its stolen or otherwise dodgy.

I assume I'll need more bits (aerial and the like), plus fitting. Anyone any ida of what it would cost to get it installed (2007 SLK350)

Thanks.

Depends on which Comand unit it is. If its the newer HD based comand (identifiable by green/red phone buttons) then its fairly straight forward. You will need a few small loom adapters, bluetooth antenna, GPS antenna and possibly a mic. Coding to make it display in the instrument cluster. If its the DVD based comand unit then you will need a big loom adapter, GPS antenna, navigation disk, Audio gateway, navigation drive, a few more smaller looms, mounting plates and probably a new boot carpet/trim. Then you will definately need the car coded to make it all work.

An AGW will set you back £300, looms another £300, navigation disk £200, mounting plates and trims say £150 nav drive £1900 new from Mercedes, £900 elsewhere or about £200 on ebay. So having just a DVD based Comand head unit is only the start.

I have a DVD nav drive and audio gateway if you are interested, plus the option of a harmon kardon audio gateway. If you wanted to collect these parts, I could also code your car for navigation.

Thanks Alfie,

I think its an older one (no hdd), a BE9001, which is supposed to be for an SLK.
