R171 SLK gearbox oil

I've been advised to have my gearbox oil replaced as my car is an '04 and as far as I'm aware it hasn't been done before, yet similar BMW boxes are apparantly maintenance free and effectively sealed for life.

So, basically should I be getting this done or is it unecessary ?

Assuming you have the 7G-Tronic 'box, I beleive it's requried at 37,500 miles, regardless of the age of the car. That's when mine was done.
