Hey everyone,

In the boot of a friend's SLK there is a black foam block kicking around.

It has the following part number: A1716840196

Does anyone have any idea what its for and where its supposed to go?

Many thanks,

Tigger

No it comes with the ultra low profile space saver. Literally looks like half a dozen fan belts strapped around a rim! Hehe!

Its just this foam block has us baffled at the moment.

Its approximately 2 foot by 1 foot and about an inch and a half thick.

On one side it just has the letters "RL" embossed into it.

On the other side it has

A1716840196
Germany KPH

>EPP<
RL

Looks like this...

The copy of the M-B price list I have helpfully describes it as "pad"!

I can tell you it weighs 0.109 kg, and the gross price is 3.60 euros :)

Doesn't show up on a part number search in EPC.

According to my mate in parts, its nothing to do with the boot. In fact, it is a foam block which sits between the carpet and floorpan, (or maybe the audio gateway), in the passengers side foot well, just under where you feet go on the firewall, upwards incliney bit if you know what I mean.

While the other block looks similar, without another number its hard to tell where that goes but my guess is that it's something similar which goes in a similar place, maybe the drivers side?

Did you have tracker fitted ? perhaps they took it out then ..

I think thats 2 pictures of the same part (i.e both sides?) as there isnt one on the drivers side.

I've just looked at EPCnet, and as portzy's mate in parts says, it goes under the front passenger footwell carpet, on the upright bit rather than the flat bit.

Under that carpet is a metal panel that unscrews with control units under that (or attached to it on the underside) - the foam fits between that and the carpet to make it nice and soft no-doubt.

Often people put tracker modules under that plate, which is why I asked about tracker, i.e someone took it out and forgot to put it back :-(

IT is the spacer foam that sits between the equipment carrier and the floor carpet.

The equipment carrier is a metal frame which conceals the audio gateway and transmission controller. The foam pad builds it up to the height of the carpet.

It should go in the upper part of the passenger footwell (45 degrees ???). You can check without pulling any parts out. The carpet will fold back.

If I am not mistaken that carpet should have slumped.

Thank you all for helping to solve that little mystery.

The carpet has a mat on top of it so a slump in the carpet has not been noticable.

Well it can now return to its rightful place tomorrow morning!

Are there any mods that can be done in the passenger footwell while I'm down there? ;)
