Hi,

Recently my 2003 SL started 'clicking' heavily from both front roof latches on bumpy roads. I did a bit of digging and subsequently replaced the intermediate pivot pins then tightened everything up a little and the clicking has mostly gone.

As a result of this tightening up I do now have another problem. The roof needs to close about another 0.2mm or so to sit snuggly against the front seals. There are two long black pins on the front latches which seem to trip microswitches in top of the windscreen crossmember. There is also a microswitch in the offside roof latch.

Can anyone advise if there is any adjustment in either the roof latch or where it locates on the window frame? I have access to WIS and cannot find any docs relating to this.

Thanks in advance, Robert.

After a bit of digging I found AR77.50-P3035R in WIS which explained the process. I short cut it a little by doing the following...

With the roof FULLY OPEN ( the WIS says to remove ALL trim and wedge roof open 10cm, if I were to need more adjustment I would have followed WIS for ease of access )...

Remove sunvisors and sunvisor retaining clips...
Slide 10mm ratchet spanner into outside nut on window crossmember latch nut and slacken...
Gently tap whole latch into the new position and tighten nut...
Close roof and check gap...
Re-adjust as required.

Be very careful working between the car and the trim as it could easily get damaged.

Not saying this is the best way to do it but it worked 100% for me.

I have the "clicking" issue on the passener side only. It seems to be when the body flexes over bumpy roads or when cornering harder than normal. Did replacing the intermediate pivot pins solve the problem? I've got access to WIS but can't seem to find this procedure (obviously some geeks designed the search facility as it seems that you need to know where anything is to find it!!!). How much were the pins?

mirras, thanks for your R230 SL roof latch post, just used it to fix a 2mm gap that had appeared on one side of my SL55, all adjusted perfectly now, latch was not fully tightened down on one side and it had eased open a gap
