Sorry guys another issue is with my CD Player..Radio does not work. Intially I thought may be aerial is disconnected but when I checked the wiring fuses all was fine. I also checked fuse at the back of player. Today I bought this Pen Drive which synchronises with player via radio signal and plays music. This things works fine...This has confused me as if this works then my player is receiving signal. THen why is it not working is the question..anyone has any idea...

I will wait for your comments

Thanks

ISO Plug. could you please explain where is this plug what do i need check

Check that the aerial plug is connected to the back of the stereo unit if you havent already done so. It could be that the aerial is indeed disconnected as you thought which may explain why you cant receive local radio stations but can receive the fm transmitter for your mp3 player. As the distance is so small when using the fm transmitter the receiver in the stereo can pick up the signal wth no problem.

Is it just static noise you get when trying to tune local stations or is it just completely silent. If you are getting a noise then the above diagnosis may be your answer. If its totally silent then it could be the receiver in the stereo or some other problem.

I get little bit of sound on few channels but its not clear at all. I am sure when I extracted the player..all wires were connected..Could it be wire going to Aerial is disconnected...Do you know where abouts is the aerial..is it easy to apprach to check wiring

It could be that you have pulled one of the cables out whilst you were re-fitting the stereo. Did the radio work before you took it out or was that the reason you took it out in the first place.

If you are getting a little sound, do you mean you are hearing static and if you increase the sound it gets louder? If so, then it could be that the aerial is disconnected at some point. If the FM transmitter you have for the music device works then the actual receiver in the stereo must be working to decode the signal and play the sound through the car speakers so that means that it is something to do with the actual aerial or its connections.

Have you tried taking the stereo out, checking the aerial is plugged in at the back and turning it on whilst you have it out of the centre console?

If it isnt working when you try this then it must be a brake or damage to the cable somewhere along the line to the aerial or the aerial itself.

The location of the aerial as far as i know is around the outer edge of the rear windscreen although im not too sure. I think thats where it is on my coupe though. Im certain thats where the aerial is for the keyfob central locking.

Try removing it and keeping it turned on as i said above and see what happens. Let us know how this goes.

A lot of the newer cars use the heated rear window elements as the aerial and have a booster amplifier fitted in the 'C' pillar .

The first thing to check is indeed whether the aerial connector is indeed plugged into the back of your radio - even if it is , pull it out and insert a slim screwdriver blade into the socket , making contact with the centre connector and hold the screwdriver with your fingers - this way your body will be acting as an aerial - if you can then get any sort of reception it proves your radio is OK and the fault lies with your aerial system ; if you still don't get anything at all then your tuner is probably faulty .

Using a USB input on the front of your radio is not testing the tuner and will not relate to the original fault .

If screwdriver gives any sort of signal , then plug lead back in and remove trim from 'C' pillar to trace other end of cable and repeat screwdriver test : if you get a signal from here then the fault is further up the lead - either the amplifier or the aerial itself . If you can identify power cables going to the amplifier you should be able to meter for 12V supply - if supply not there then look for fuse ( supply 'may' be fed from back of radio so amplifier only on when radio in use - check connections ) if all this checks out - suspect amplifier or bad connection to window elements ( visual chack ) .

I dont think the pen drive is plugged into the actual cd player. I think it is one of these fm transmitters that transmits your music over an fm frequency to be received by the cars stereo with out having to connect wires to an auxiliary input.

As this is working it suggests that it is a problem with the aerial because as the pen drive fm transmitter is so close to the stereo the actual aerial is not required as much so the stereo can pick up the signal no problem without an aerial plugged in.

The problem then with receiving local radio stations is that they are further away and so an aerial would be required to pick up the fainter signal.

Yes , perhaps I misread the OP's post . If indeed the 'pen drive' is actually an FM transmitter ( like the iTrip etc ) then it proves the tuner is working and a fault in the aerial , or aerial not plugged in .

The term 'pen drive' was misleading as a lot of head units do have a USB input now , so that a USB flash drive with MP3 files can be plugged in .
