Range Rover Drivers

Women RR drivers and Country lanes are the worst. Fortunately I drive either a, a van or b, and old banger so the RR drivers generally come off worse :)

If there was a test to prove that you actually needed a 4 wheel drive boat instead of a normal vehicle RRs would sell in three figures. If owners are silly enough to pledge their financial futures in order to drive these barges then more fool them. Just try to remember that you didn't buy the road when you started the HP agreement.

they can turn a two lane road into five lanes

Yes they can & do turn a 2 lane congested road into a completely blocked road by making it into five lanes.
But the only thing of any importance to them is, they get through the congestion themselves with no thought to anyone else. Other road users are unimportant.

Not quite sure of the point you are trying to make!
If there was a test could you prove you need a Mercedes?
Would you prefer to make your own vehicle choice or be regulated to certain types or size of car?

The older shape ones arn't that fast, the new models that have just come out though have moved things on quite a lot:

TDV6 is 7 secs 0-60
TDV8 is 6.5 secs
Supercharged is 5 secs

None of them are exactly slow, I have to say I have a lot of respect for things like Supercharged RRs,ML63s, Cayenne Turbos etc for making something that big move so quickly.

In my experience, replace Range Rover with
Audi
BMW
*Just about every single car ever made
**except MB, obviously.
;-)

Oddly, I rarely see 911's out of lane 1 doing more than 65mph. Don't know why?

911 drivers are some of the slowest on the road. It is beyond me why they buy such a fast car. Most likely for posing

They're petrified of being pulled over by the plod. Lots more points for a porker.

I think my point (and I am sorry you failed to grasp it) was that a Range Rover is a very large, heavy, superb vehicle which is capable of towing massive weights, going up a mountain and has enough room in it for many passengers and their luggage. If I did any of those things on a regular basis then I would have one. But I don't and the number of RR owners who do are very small (just drive round central London at school time for proof) They are fashion statements often bought on finance by people who don't know any better. My neck of the woods is stuffed with them badly driven by the obligatory dyed blond. All fur coat and no...I live on the edge of the Peaks and those who have to go on them drive old Landies or Toyotas because its what they do not some style choice.

We are limited to certain types and style. I don't have an HGV licence so I can't drive a lorry, much better visibility and much safer than a RR which is the usual half wit defence of these vehicles. I can't drive a motorbike without another set of tests.

There is no reason to own anything other than a Dacia Duster but people don't, do you really need a cabriolet?

And your point about HP is a strange one because I've always generally found that LR buyers across the board tend to be 'cash buyers', I don't know any that lease theirs.

As I contrive to spend about half the year in much hotter climes, then yes. We are focusing on one of the heaviest fuel users, heaviest weight, largest private vehicles that was originally designed to do extraordinary things but now appears to be "a fashion statement" (is there any phrase more calculated to make one want one to up-chuck),not cars in general. After all some people actually buy BMWs and whilst I feel pity I wouldn't want to stop them, who would we have to despise then? Audi drivers, that's like picking on the dim kid in the class.

Why did you choose the V6 when you could have bought the 4cyl? The list could be a never ending one; he who casts the first stone and all that...

Good job I've just sold mine then!

Yes and I would have a good answer for them all,I got paid a lot of money for always having a good answer. I tow a heavy caravan, the V6 has the torque and the weight. Next?
He who casts the first stone wins if he is a good shot.

We are not limited to certain types and styles. You could go and get a licence for any vehicle you wish to drive! How many Range Rovers go off road? I couldn't answer that because I haven't asked all the drivers. Have you?
A Range Rover is sometimes bought as a fashion statement, you could say that about many cars, maybe even Mercedes Benz.
You have a V6 because you tow a caravan. Do you need to tow a caravan? If so why not use an old Landy or Toyota 'because its what they do, not some style choice'.

Freedom of choice is something I thought we all could appreciate.

I buy new Mercedes because my days of spending time under bonnets are long past. I enjoyed it then,I'm too old to do so now and I don't want a vehicle that spends a lot of time being repaired. So old cars are out.

A caravan is not a vehicle so is out of this discussion. When I was a teenager I bought things as style choices, but then I grew up and put away childish things. MBs may well be bought as fashion statements and I would despise those buyers as I despise any weak minded fool who buys anything for those reasons.

I think RR may well be able to tell you what percentage of their vehicles go off road, other than up the kerb at Waitrose. Clearly their research tells them it is vanishingly small otherwise they would use more practical materials both outside and in as they used to.

I believe in free choice, within the limits of the law and did not advocate people being restricted in their choice, distorting what your opponent said is a poor tactic. If you read what I said instead of what you think I said you will see that. I observed that if there was a test for RR need then most users would fail it. That is not, in my lexicon, advocating such a test. They are perfectly entitled to drive such a vehicle, but is it obligatory to drive them so badly? If they want to waste large sums to prove they can why not burn banknotes in their Aga. No, that would be no good unless they invited people to watch. Such fragile egos.

Pretty much any modern car can match Mercedes for reliability, along with many older ones.

How do you know they are bought as a fashion accessory rather than just a vehicle that fits all of the purchasers needs, and that they also like the car and enjoy driving it. It would be all too easy to buy a flash new car that you really like, but onlookers just assume you are trying to make a fashion statement!

Just because you see a Range Rover with a women driving it in London doesn't mean she doesn't leave the city sometimes to partake in other pursuits.

I can agree you do get some bad drivers in RRs but you can say that about any make of car. You are more likely to notice them in a RR than a battered old Astra.

You can't drive a Motorbike at all.

Has it occurred to you that some people buy Range Rovers because they like driving them?, just like you enjoy lugging around a box behind your Merc for somewhere to sleep when you likely could more than easily travel to your destination and stay in a Hotel.

I tow a heavy caravan

A soft top E-Class towing a 'heavy' caravan? That must be close to the legal limits?
