Some off you may have realised I have been absent from the forum for a while and for those of you that know why thank you for the kind e mails.
Last Friday my wife was involved in a serious accident that saw her roll her 4x4 and sustain some nasty injuries. Fortunately the driver training and drive and survive courses she has done with me probably saved her life.
What started out as a normal sunny morning turned into a major incident in South Yorkshire. My wife went to fill up her car with fuel whilst on a narrow country lane the front tyre suffered a sidewall failure (new michelin) and blew out this sent her veering accross the road at 40 mph causing her to hit a stone wall both airbags went off instantly blowing her hands off the wheel, the car mounted the wall and then barrel rolled blocking the road, below are the photo's after the vehicle was recovered.
Fortunately the car stood up well but she suffered bad head and facial cuts and bruises the worst one was during the roll her cheekbone contacted the gear knob with a very severe impact, her face from the neck up is just purple with cuts and bruises but she is well on the mend, the paramedics and doctors could not believe she walked away with no broken bones or internal injuries a testament to the strength of the car.
Anyway the point of my post is, Imagine the scenario your car has just hit a wall the airbags have gone off and your hands blown off the wheel and you have no control, What do you do? Well the minute an airbag goes off in a car the game changes from control to survival this she remembered, tucked her arms and legs in and hoped for the best. When the car came to rest it was on the passenger side and she was suspened by the seatbelt with the belt locked and the smell of burning entering the car so she knew she had to get out this is where this little gadget came in.
Cool as a scucumber she cut the seatbelt with it and pulled herself up to get out of the drivers door, fortunately a good samaritan had already stopped and pulled her out and a police armed response unit returning to their base near us was there 30 seconds after the incident happened so got it all under control. Fire brigade, paramedics RRV and ambulance and they were amazed that although her injuries are nasty the swelling will go down and the cuts will heal. Police accident investiagtors have now confirmed accident was caused by tyre failure so now its into the drama of the insurance claim.
Anyway if you do one thing after reading this post buy a Lifehammer and keep it in reach where you can use it if needed the cost of saving your life could be as cheap as £9.99
