hello all

who here is a benz fan through and through... i mean you will only ever drive benzes no matter what...is there anyone here like this... or is it just me...

Not me - I have always liked them and eventually decided to get one but after all it is just a form of transport. Now a Ducati 916 or an urban tiger fireblade .......... hmmmmm.

Nope - I can't get that attached to vehicles or a particular brand. each have their plus and minus points, as I'm about to find out!

Not me, I love my benz but my Yamaha Thunderace is more fun and my Maserati 4200GT is faster.

for the older classics, yeah.. but i would still consider offerings by others, as i genuinely think the sparkle of the benz badge faded in the 90's..

Though at the top end of the model ranges, the car still has a charm, the entry models fail to keep the star standing up proud...

if the models improve in the coming years, then sure, i guess i would be a die hard follower...

otherwise i think Jag might have it for me!

Are we calling them Benzes now?

It's slang for Mercedes Benz Neil. If he wishes to call them that that's up to him

Only Merecedes Benz for me from now on.

I'm love the way they drive and I'd say I'm hooked on the quality.

Even if I became potless, I'd find an old one and enjoy it. :thumb:

I will buy one as long as it lasts me a long while and it lasts longer than a Vectra, Mondeo or any other equivelent.

Whitch my one has!!

I love mine, lovely to drive etc.... but the rust factor at an early age might put me off buying another.

I wouldn't say im a benz man through and through as this my first, but in teh last 8 odd years all my parents have bought is mercs, so now between us we have 4 and have had all together 8 or 9. does that count?

Pretty much I am... I have to drive lesser cars from time to time due to my work but all of my cars and my family's cars have to be MB.

I could never be purely a Mercedes man - there are too many other cars out there I like ! I do love the build quality of my W126 500SEL & would only consider replacing it if I found a really nice 560 (which is not that easy to do....). Currently though I'm looking to track down a nice 928 S4 or GTS. With the rear muffler bypass they sound glorious & a good one still looks amazing after all these years - remember they were first sketched in 1971 !

some of you guys sound like my sorta people.....i love these cars.. there a big part of my life..my first car at 17 was a benz(and r6 lol) a clapped c180 lol but it never broke down i did 40k in it not even a rattle..its good to know im not the only benz nut about.. ideally id love to have 3.. a 2000 sl500 a c43... and a clk430.. chances are il keep the 210 for a while.. absolutly love it

It's not really slang Ollie, it's an American ghetto / barrio abbreviation made popular by the current trend of white middle class Home Counties residents apeing US street / ghetto / pimp 'culture'. Which is why, like "dude," "homey," "dawg" and other imports it just sounds wrong & faintly ridiculous on this side of the Atlantic unless you happen to have an American accent, which I'm guessing most contributors to this thread don't have.

To reply to your question Tony, I have a few older Mercs & while they are good cars they are not the only good cars in existence. I've been driving mainly German cars since before you or Ollie were born and I'd say there are plenty of other interesting fish in the automotive sea apart from Mercedes.

dude calm down ok pimp homie dawg....

point is.. Mercedes is the only fish in the sea for me....

I've been behind a Merc steering wheel for the last six year and will get another one for my next car. As I've got young kids I need an estate and will go for a W203 or W211 estate next. Probably a W211 for the seven seat option (kids again...)

The logic is partly because I've now got a set of MB roof box/bars/racks and it would cost me £1000 to get the same set up for an Audi or BM.

But it's more because I like the way Mercs can be sporty enough for me and comfortable enough for the family.

All the Audi's I've been in have a pretty appalling ride. And 4WD means cr*p turning circles - not good in London. BM's are better in both those regards and the latest 5 Tourer is less ugy than most Bangle designs. My wife actually wants an X5 (!?).

She's happy with a 211 instead so I guess that's what it'll be. With a big motor and air suspension.

Having said that I do enjoy driving other makes. For our second car (if I can possibly justify buying something that will do less that 1000 miles a year....) I'd love an old 911, a 330ci, an Alfa 156 or a Seat Leon for example - In other words I'd like to get something smaller and more fun to pedal as a back up.

But if the question is what ONE car would I choose it would be a Merc :)

I have grown to appreciate these cars for their effortlessness whether in town or country , and mile -eating abilities. I hope to be able to stay loyal to them for years to come - reasonable parts prices on service items , and good economy are a welcome bonus! My first ever ride in one was a newish W126 and the silence and silken ride was a revelation.

While I like then in our family we have quite a selection I think its good to try other cars.

You choose your car for a reason at the time you buy it. There may not be a model in the range that you like at the particular time of buying?

So I like them but do like to keep my options open, while the grass is not aleays greener you do need to take the rose tints off now and again :)

At the moment, with only having the funds to own and run one car each, mine will be a Mercedes for the forseeable future. As an everyday car they do nothing wrong. In fact I'm in a privileged position at the moment, my preferred front drive every day car is a Volvo, and we've got one of them in the household too!

Given unlimited budget, there'd be a Pagani, a Ferrari, a Lotus and a Porsche in my life too, and maybe a Smart or IQ as well. But for now the E's are good.
