My car has started to produce a knock from the rear passenger side. It only occurs when braking and only after accelerating. If I move off slowly and brake there is no knocking sound. There is no knocking sound going over potholes.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Could be several things

Sounds as if could be mechanical movement due to weight transfer or torque reaction because of any of the following:-

1. rubber bush/bushes in rear suspension arms have gone.
or
2. differential mountings gone or soft
or
3.rear subframe mountings gone or damaged
or
4. propshaft flexible coupling or centre bearing worn
or
5.rear anti-roll bar bushes or mounts or links gone
or
6. defective shock absorber or mount.

you will just have to check them out one by one, my money would be on no1 or 5 links

just inspect carefully and wiggle about some force - should hopefully become obvious
