Rear Tyre Wear E Class Estate

I feel the tyres have worn very well?.... The design of the Continental leaves a distressing look to a worn tyre but this example is uniform in contour so no distress geometrically.

Tyre pressure manipulation in this case is hard since the drive is 50% town, 50% motorway + occasional towing.. Best advice is to remember all pressures offered by the manufacturer are (within reason) suggestions and not law.

Small manipulation of the pressure and careful monitoring of the results will offer a unique set-up.

Hello everyone,
I'm thinking about changing the tires on my E55 210 estate as I found dunlop sp 9000 on front axle to loud and dunop sport max at the rear not sticky enough. In fact I cannoty decide between mischelin spotr contact 2 and goodyear assimetrico.

The user feedback on the Goodyear has been exemplary.

I also have an 07 E320 CDI sport estate. I have just replaced the same continental rear tyres at 20,000 miles. I got the same again from Micheldeaver tyres £370 ish for the pair.

I think mine have worn very well, lots of motorway driving with the car very full.

I am surprised yours haven't done better, I suspect it is the towing.

Cheers

Harvey

Hi I have the same engine as you albeit on a W203. I used to have contis too but got dissillusioned at 15,000 miles per rear set. (17" staggered wheels). I have now switched to Goodyear F1 assymetrics - nice tyres - great grip and seem to be wearing better. Michelins have the reputation for better wear but at a price...

Only got 15K or so out of my last set of Michelin Pilots (on 18's). Car is now wearing Continental Contact Sports2 MO - which are meant to be Mercedes-specific.

I just tend to go for the best-priced premium brand tyres available wheh I'm looking. I'm never that fussed with wear rate or handling characteristics. IMHO, as long as you are buying decent rubber, the latter is much of a muchness. With reference to another thread that is currently running, I bet most would fail miserably if they had to do a 'blind' test to guess exactly which tyres they had on their car out of a choice of say 4 or 5 different brands!

I am just about to change the rear tyres on my 57 plate e320 cdi 12K miles motorway and town driving dont pull away with the wheels spinning these are conti sport 3's. I used to get 17K from the conti 2's on my c270. I guess the extra torque and weight must a be a factor. I am carrying the same amount of kit in the boot.

Been quoted £343 for conti 2 as no conti 3 about, fitted by a new dealer in town, which is a staggering £140 less than the local kwik fit with 10% discount.
