Read on the BBC News website that BMW is recalling lots of cars due to faulty diesel pumps made by Bosch. The report also mentioned that Mercedes have used the same pumps. Does anyone know why Mercedes is not recalling any vehicles? Mercedes cars are affected, according to the report, as DaimlerChrysler admitted to the fact that production was halted as a result of this defective part.

AFAIK it's not a recall. My 'lift pump' was changed at the last service by BMW at their cost. I think it's one of those things that will just happen next time it's serviced, without many owners knowing about it. I'd be amazed if MB weren't doing something similar if it is the same pump.

VW & associated brands are in a fix over this as well: 290,000 vehicles worldwide impacted.

MB ain't gonna recall if they can make the changes during the normal service schedule. Look at the seatbelt fiasco on the W211!

Sorry - I've now read it - it's not the lift pump!
