Recall on E class W211 2003 2.7 ?..

We bought a beautiful eClass W211 2003 diesel recently the radiator failed which caused a serious problem with torque converter and gearbox. Our brilliant mechanic who is a local legend says this was a fault on this model and was subject to a recall?. Does anyone know anything about this? At present the cost to be approx £2000.

No recall I'm afraid, if caught early enough would have been warranty and then possibly a good will gesture, as it stands now repair at owners cost.
