On a 230 kompressor...

I'm talking about the box between catalyst and the backbox. Removing this and getting it replaced with a straight through pipe..

Will it negatively affect performance? I'm guessing it will give it a gruntier sound..

do it! It will sound better, if anything it would improve performance, allowing gasses to leave the exhaust quicker

Won't run risk of making it more 'free-flowing' or losing torque etc?

Also - Rough idea of the price I should be paying?

Loads of people on here have done it, I did it to my CL55 AMG (but also took the secondary cats out at the same time) The only other performance mod ive done is K&N air filters and Mine now does 0-60 in 4.9 secs (standard is 5.6).

I paid about £130 to have it done on my SL. That was a more complex job as the pipe had to be fabricated as a 'Y' shape, but it was about 5 years ago. So probably a reasonable ballpark figure for you.

It will be more "free flowing" as the resonator baffles the air around to knock the noise and some of the speed out of it. Don't worry about losing torque, removing restrictions won't do this and especially not to a forced-induction engine.

Yea way more, 2 pipes instead of one and with an x weld.. At a guess I would say £100 for a single pipe

Worth considering the recent MOT changes when looking into exhaust mods?

Not saying that this would fail, but I'd want to check :)

Insurance is not an issue, I'm with a company that allows most modifications free of charge on my policy :)

Mine didn't charge anthing extra, but you still have to remember to declare it :)

Did mine today, sounds better but still needs the manifold fixed!
