Replacing Airmatic Compressor (W220)

Went to have mine changed on Saturday. Couldn't do it!

One of the bolts (three in total) that hold the pump in place has corroded so badly that it wont come off. (Apparently they just pull off)

Garage didn't want to force it too much in fear of it sheering off, and thus preventing being able to secure the new pump.

So they've advised I get a new mounting bracket.
They'll remove the old one and refit the new bracket so the new pump will go on nice and easy.

Has anyone else come across a similar problem when they've changed their pump?

Does anyone know how difficult it is to remove the original mounting bracket? I believe the air suspension valve block is on the other side of the mounting so is that likely to complicate things? Obviously, if it's a time consuming job, it's gonna cost me more!!

Thanks for any insight.

Yes the last one I did had this problem. A new bracket is the best idea. My customer would not pay for a new one so I had to make do.

Yes, my garage offered to "make do" but advised (and I agree) to go for a new mounting. It's only about 30 pounds, seems silly to scrimp on that.

Is is easy enough to remove the old one? Do alot of other parts need to be removed in order to get it out? Is there anything likely to cause a problem or anything to look out for when removing the old one?
I guess the key question is, what sort of time scales are we talking?

Its not too complicated from memory.

I am not sure of the labour time.

OK thanks.
I'm just concerned that they have to disturb the valve block when getting the old mount off.

Incidently, the replacement pump is a 211 part. You have to order it with a replacement hose. (Which i did)
But the new pump comes with a hose already fitted. The replacement doesn't look as though it would do anything different to the one fitted. (although slightly different shape).

We swapped them over anyway, but any ideas on what the difference is?

Do you also need to change the rubber mounts and springs for each of the three securing points? I've ordered a new bracket but didn't order those. Should I?

The new pumps are a slightly different design to the old. So they make up a extra peice of pipe for 220 aplications.

As long as they are in good nick you should be ok.

Just ordered a set. Nearly 12 quid!! Might as well do it properly though,eh?

Got the new bracket and a set of washers, rubbers and springs etc.
Will be fitted this weekend.

Just one question:

Is the mounting bracket held on by any special bolts? I can't see anything on EPC and can't remember what the existing bolts look like.

I'm hoping maybe BlackC55 might have be able to shed some light as I believe you've replaced the mounting bracket in the past?

Thanks,
shr.
