Retrofitting cruise control

Hello and please have understanding for my bad english and beeing a "newbe" on this, but I hava a question. I have a A 170 CDI manual gearbox (W168 109 1J 730763) without tempomat and the variantcoding of the ecu is 213 003 011. I should really need the variantcoding for the tempomat for this vehichle, so please, if someone knows post me.

/ Patrik

Variant coding is selectable from diagnostic software.

Yes, the variant coding is selectable, but in EPC ther´s no codingoption for cruisecontrol for this vehichle:-(

With huge thanks..

To rubbergrape for all his efforts, researching how to retro-fit cruise control to a W168 and taking the time to tell others how it is done.

To Andy at Wright-Tech in Sidcup for successfully re-coding my ECU and enabling the speed limiter (and for putting up with me for an hour!).

I now have cruise control and speed limiter on my A160 :bannana:

Curiously, the wiring was already present in my car. Most unlike Mercedes to give away wire like that, but it saved me a few hours work!

Hello to all,
i have a A170CDI manual transmission and am very happy with this nifty little car. Nevertheless, i have decided it's finally time to get myself cruise control due to frequent long distance trips between cities.

I am based in france and what rubbergrape has journaled seems to be a great deal of good information! unlike most on this forum, i am not extremely experienced in modding cars but am definitely willing to get my hands dirty!

hoping some kind soul can answer some of my questions before i get down to it: does this retrofit work on a manual transmission and a diesel model?

Area51,
of what year is your a160? perhaps merc added the wiring after the facelift, that gives me hope that the wiring's already there on mine..

I believe it can be done, Steve at MBenznl fitted it to the 168 (manual, 170 CDI) shown on their website.

My A160 is year 2000 pre-facelift. I have a theory (but no way of verifying) that the cc wiring was already fitted because mine is an auto.

Forgot to mention, I have a new cruise control wiring loom (A168 540 8009) if anyone's interested.

Adding Cruise Control

Hello

I have read many posts about retrofitting Cruise Control to a Mercedes A Class W168, I have a A210 and was hoping for some guidance on what others have done to add this.

Many Thanks

Mark

Welcome to the forum, Mark. Most of the detail regarding retro-fitting cruise control is covered in this thread. I used this for reference when carrying out the mod to mine.

I was very lucky that the wiring was factory fitted on mine, I believe that this isn't usually the case.

Is your A210 manual or auto? Will you be doing the work yourself?

Thank you, it looks like a number of people have added some very useful information on retro fitting cruise control on these pages.
Yes I will be doing the work myself obviously apart from the code changes, I see a company in Bristol has done this for others, and as it's not too far away will probably contact them to assist.
My A210 is a manual gearbox.
I have ordered some parts which are coming from Germany, but I will have to wait a few weeks as I'm away on honeymoon before I install them.

Hi,

I'm just about to do a cruise control retrofit on my A140 (2003) and looking for the wiring loom. As I read thrugh the topic I find two numbers A168 540 8009 and A168 540 8009 98. I am not sure if they are compatible or not. So if you can confirm, that yours fits into my car, and you still have it, and can ship it to Hungary, and the overall cost ist reasonable, then I am interested. My VIN WDB1681311J960937

Both are the same part and seems like the correct one to your car.

I think that the only difference between the two part numbers is the ECU pins which changed on later cars. These are easily changed if necessary.

Have you checked to see if the cruise control wiring is already fitted on your car? Using your VIN, EPC shows that the connector for the switch is present, although this may just be an error on MBs part.

Yeah, I have checked it, dismounted the airbag, steering wheel, and nothing is there.

I'd like £20 for the loom, not sure about shipping costs. I'll check prices and let you know?

If EPC is right, but connector is not present behind the steering wheel, do you have any idea where to look for the possibly "partially fitted harness"?

And how can I get EPC WIS and other useful staff with correct installation guide? (Once I have downloaded database and some wirtual machine, but I could not get them work)

Any more info on the A210 retrofit?

I also have a manual 210 (03) and I also have a auto a140 (also 03) as a parts donor, the 140 has cruise fitted so I have most of the components. Does anyone have any further info or am I just gonna have to suck it and see?
