Reveres lights and camera intermittent fault

Hi Guys, ive a 2012 Viano, when i put it into reverse more often than not the rear camera and reverse lights dont come on, i can dip the clutch take it out of reverse then put it back in then it`ll work, it can work perfectly one day then hardly ever the next. Last night whilst reversing onto my drive it took 5 attempts for it to work. Ive had the vehicle in mercedes and they say they have replaced the switch etc but if anything its getting worse. I wondered if anyone else has had this problem and managed to sort it out? Your input would be appreciated.

The switch connects to the SAM module and that in turn drives the reverse lights and powers the camera

Do you have COMAND? Does that switch to the reverse camera screen reliably? If it does then it's not the switch. If it doesn't then it's the switch, wiring or Sam itself.

Thanks for your prompt response, yes i have comand 2.5 with factory fitted camera. The dealership are telling me they cant work out whats wrong as they have done all they can. My warranty runs out next month so i want it sorting out, besides its a possible danger if im reversing with no lights and maybe an mot failure.

Ok. When you select reverse does the comand always switch to the reversing screen ? (Which will be blank if camera hasn't turned on)

If the vehicle is behaving normal then once i put the vehicle in to reverse the camera view appears on the command screen and the reverse lights will light up, but most of the time when i put it into reverse the comand screen stays normal showing the radio or sat nav screen and the reverse lights wont be on, i then take it out of reverse and back until the comand screen switches to the rear camera and the reverse lights will be on.
