I still havent decided what to buy yet and the quest for something a bit different is taking me down the path of something like a Ford Mustang or Corvette .. But I dont fancy a LHD one.

Does anyone know if they can be converted to RHD & if so where could I find more info?

TIA

don't think they can be converted to RHD due to the packaging under the bonnet. You should pop into Bauer and Millets on Deansgate for a chat, they are official GM dealers.

American cars are certainly different and I cannot recommend enough that you have an extended 'test' of any US vehicle you intend purchasing. Does the Viper come in RHD format.

I will be very honest and tactfully say, "Not my cup of tea". ;) I have fallen in love with that new Aston Martin convertible and would very much appreciate any observations you might have.

Good luck,
John

Good luck

Hi Steve,

I would look and See what american cars are imported in to Australia, and choose from that selection if it's a RHD yank you want.

Maybe scotth uk could help with his Aussie contacts,Just for info purposes

I do not know if yank tanks are imported into south africa, (but they are RHD also) but thats the only way you will find what you maybe looking for.

I just phoned - totally unhelpful! the chap said that its not something they get involved in. Heard of some GM cars being converted but wouldnt say where :(
I did find a Midlands Website that convert GM cars, pickups & motohomes for £7 - £8k and they are possibly going to develop a Hummer RHD conversion  Apparantly Australia GM dealers have some experience of converting Corvettes .

I rather fancy a Mustang - always did since being a kid (that was as well as fancying an Aston - which i've experienced already)

There used to be a specialist american car dealer that always took a full page ad in Autotrader. Can't remember the name, something like American Car Company I think. Again they were an approved GM dealer.

There is a dealer somewhere offering RHD converted new Mustangs. Bad news is the price is almost double (£35k!!) the US price. It was in Autocar the other week, I'll try and find the name

The other bads news is that the residuals on new imported Yank cars are shocking

You could always try the Crossfire  :p :D

You could ask here:

http://www.corvetteclub.org.uk/

There is bound to be a Mustang Owners Club as well. BTW all the references to Oz - American cars must be converted to RHD to be used on their roads, so that may well be an option to explore further. Good luck.

 1.97 secs Thats fast, Top video

I've found out via Kent Car Imports that dealer by the name of Clive Sutton in St Johns Wood London are getting a RHD demonstrator of the mustang GT in 3 -4 weeks. These guys are asking £27k for a LHD V8 coupe & £33k for the 4 seater convertible so a RHD version will be around £35k / £41.
The concensus seems to be import a car from US then have it converted by a specialist - But up to now, the reports have been that RHD conversions are a) cost is £7-8k b) quality varies considerably c) a Ford Dealer in the US claims that the car is balanced for LHD & a conversion wil alter the dynamics & handling of the car to its detriment.

it seems that unless a conversion is absolutely spot on & the dealer would offer to warranty & buy the car back for a price that took account of comparable deprciation with other prestige marques after a year or 2 it wouldnt be worth it.

Mind you, even £35k / £41k isnt bad for a car with supercar perfomance 0- 60 in 5.1 secs & 180mph top speed.

How many of these would you see around especially in RHD format -- not many benny so it would retain an element of exclusivity & hopefully desirability :) (meaning it might not be completely worthless after 3 years!)

When I posted the Kent car imports site, I also posted the: http://www.stangs.co.uk/index.htm

Hopefully they should have their finger on the pulse and come up with any information on the availability of RHD. Everything I read was pohh hooing it on the basis of cost. Just look at the problems with the new Mercedes-Benz 4Matic and RHD??

John

this week's Autocar has an article about importing Mustangs .. the total cost is approx £21k for V8 with lots of toys including all taxes (VAT, import duty) and SVA costs but not RHD conversion.

but there is apparently a 1 year waiting list on Mustangs .. although there must be a cancelled order in the right spec lurking in the US somewhere.
