PART 1

Myself and 4 mates headed on down to the most exciting peice of road in the world on the weekend known to you and I as the Nurburgring.

Flew out to Frankfurt on Saturday 8th of July and back on the very very early hours of Tuesday morning 11th of July... thanks to a delayed flight  was very much worth the effort.

Arrived in Frankfurt airport and picked up car number 1

New S 350 :bannana:

I was very very very very impresed by this car.. but more about that later

We then all drove from the airport to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof where my mate picked up his car, which was even more impressive than mine

Yep it is a Porsche 997 911 Carrera S Cabriolet

What can I say... I am absolutely speechless, what a car!

We then had a high speed drive down to the ring.... which was made very much more entertaining by a heavy downpour of rain... which was fine for me happily cruising along in all the luxury of the S Class, not so good for my mate who had the top down on the porsche  Needless to say they got a little wet!

We arrived at the Dorrint and checked in to our track side rooms, and just happened to stumble upon this:

They were using the entire ring including the F1 track, so we had prime viewing position.

Spent the rest of most of Saturday spectating and looking for new spots to check out the action... followed by some great food and a few bitburger's

Thats pretty much what spurred it on.... Can't take any credit for the Porker, that was completley the idea of my other mate Ben :) However the S350 is all me :D

Was actually supposed to get an A8, but ended up with the S, whcih was absolutely fine by me, awesome car... Merc have done well!

Trying and succeeding! My recent rental missions in the S350 and the 997 were both plagued with rain. :-( On top of that their 997 was a convertible AND a manual!

Where did your mate hire the 997 from?

I'm looking to hire a Porsche in Germany in September, but the only Porsche I can get is a Cayenne (which kind of misses the point)

www.avis.de rents a selection of Porsches, but you'll need to be patient with selection of a suitable location. Not all sites can rent you the car. We eventually settled on Frankfurt train station.

Unfortunately I can't be so choosy.

Flying into Stuttgart Thursday am, flying out of Leipzig Monday evening. I had better whisper it here, but it's a Porsche trip. We are supposed to drive out and back in our own Porsches, but I haven't the time to do that (nor the Porsche since I sold it), so the least I can do is hire one!

the 997 c2s cab is the exact car i have been driving all week in spain (my father has one). Took a friend through a few bends and he (who is a car nut with an e46 325ci) reckoned that the bmw would of been literally off the side of the cliff.
