How can I purchase tax for the old girl?

I will be confirming my insurance with the broker over the phone on the day.

The car does have MOT but no current insurance policy at the moment.

Is there a way or do I have to confirm the policy before I buy the car and have my papers sent out 1st class.

:dk:

Would it be possible to start the insurance policy on Friday, then pay for the tax online that same day?

You obviously wont get the tax in the post on time, but I think you'll still be covered as long as it's paid for.

Plan B: do Post Offices accept fax copies of insurance documents?

Unfortunately you must provide original documents to get tax. Once your car is registered to you, the renewal form sent by DVLA is all you'll need, Insurance and MOT will be verified electronicaly.

Post offices wont accept anything other than original documents...sorry

Technically you could still be done for failure to display..

Easiest way would be to get the owner to tax it if hes still got ins cover on it.

Or hire a trailer, about £50 a day when iv had 1,suppose it could be dearer in london.

iv taxed them before at the p/o , with the original m.o.t. & original insurance cert & green slip off reg doc and a form you fill out to get a reg doc (usally avalible at p/o) but you will find tax has to begin from the 1st of this month (so you loose a week or so)

look on direct.gov web site under how to tax your vehicle, you can also download & print relavent forms (v10 or v62)

a good broker will first-class something to you tomorrow for you to receive friday and then tax locally but dont forget Saturday closing.
A lot easier to get the owner to do it as has been said

I was having a similar conversation today about picking up a car without TAX.

apparently as long as your insured on the vehicle & on stricked condition your driving straight home it isn't a problem.. if you provide documents that you have just purchessed the vehicle.

Another i heard which sounds smart (and i hope is true), apparently you can drive a SORN vehicle on the road with insurance on the condition that you are driving to the MOT station (obviously you'd have to some how prove that your MOT is booked up & your on your way there) as we all know you can only purchess TAX with MOT & Insurance

I thought insurers could email the policy documents as a PDF. So, you then have the original to print for yourself.

I've always just driven cars home and taken a chance. Its not like you are trying to evade tax... you've just bought the vehicle and you have no way to tax it immediately.

Get the tax online, and just print the recieve.I any prob, they can contact DVLA to confirm. The other option is what i`ve done lately, drive the car to nearest DVLA office hand the ins and the mot and you can get the tax there.

If I use the online service to buy tax before I recieve my new log book then the DISC may go to he previous owner.

Dont think you can as its not in your name and insurance wont be registered anyway.

Traders drive with no tax all the time when selling cars - I wouldn't worry about it. Drive it home & park it off street until taxed. Just make sure you back date the tax to the begining of the month.

In post office you can.
