Road Tax question

ok I'll stop stressing :)

Insure it and book it in for an MOT, then drive without tax, if you get stopped or see a ANPR van get the MOT done, if not cancel whe you get home.

You must have a friend with some trade plates? Of course they would have to be driving the car ;)

When I recently got a new classic policy with Hagerty they sent me links to custom-generated PDFs of my insurance documents. I was able to print them out and get tax with them at the post office.

Armed with a fresh purchase receipt and log book slip, what sort of copper would bother to nick you for road tax evasion when driving the vehicle home given the circumstances? :dk:

Equally, what court would uphold that decision?

In just a month though it won't need tax? Can you not just SORN it (I know I am sure you want to drive it now!!) and then enjoy it VED free in October?

I had the same problem when I bought the W126 which had been on SORN for a few months .

In the end , I insured online the day before and printed off the confirmation with the policy number to have in the car with me . The car was newly MOT'd that morning so I 'drove home from the test' with the new certificate in my possession .

As it was , the RAC were taking a few days to send out the certificate , so I taxed the car online , knowing the disc would go to the previous owner , but he had agreed to post it on , and I printed out the confirmation email from DVLA and put that in the windscreen for the few days until the disc came through - the car WAS taxed and I knew the failure to display offence was a trivial one with a very small fine only at risk - still never left the car in a public place for those few days though .

Do not buy it online.

Like has been said the only option to do it legally is ask the owner to do it for you... he must have insurance.

Otherwise if you can stop off at mine i can get it for you too. You will be risking only half the journey then!

I now have the insurance papers in my hand. Jay What time does your PO close ?

i drove a 106 pug back from up north for a freind and the rear drums seized on it on the way back, RAC said that they wouldnt tow it back as it had no tax, a patrol van came and jacked it up freeing the wheels luckily and i managed to drive it back!

no problem now you have the tax sorted! :)

keep your phone on :)
