Hi guys, on the verge of buying back into the MB world and looking at the 4 door C class. Do any of you know if the running costs vary significantly from the 1.8l variants to the 3.5l versions. The larger engined looks nicer but do you pay a lot more to keep it going?

Cheers
Graham

Yes, my 3L V6 C Class costs far more in fuel, oil, spark plugs, air filters, tax, insurance, tyres, brakes, etc than my mate's 1.8L 4 pot C Class. :)

Sadly I was being serious, I am relatively inexperienced with the various mercedes engines and they're costs. I possibly didn't phrase the post particularly clearly. I have for the last 8 years been running a ford with a 3 litre V6 and the maintenance costs have not been that bad compared to the other smaller cars that we have had and I was trying to get a feel for how much more the car was to run. The ford v6 was about the same to service as the CLK that I used to drive.

I appreciate that it will burn more fuel than the smaller engined car but compared to what I am currently driving it looks like I'll be getting about 10 more mpg from the merc. I assume being 6 cylinders the drive will also be nicer and it has the 7 speed gearbox which appears to get good reviews from users of this forum. However if it is ridiculously more expensive to service because it's a merc (as opposed to the ford that I have experience with) then it may be a false economy to get it. We will not be doing many miles and most will be motorway driving.

Is it possible to make an assumption about the scale of the additional cost? If my budget allowed for an extra three or four hundred pounds a year on servicing would that cover it? For those that have one is it worth the extra money to have the bigger engine and the better drive?:dk:

I don't wish to waste people's time on here and I am grateful for any advice, if it is all to vague to give an answer please say.
