Russian Parts Site ... Has it died ?

It's useful and interesting in a nerdy sort of way 🥸 to be able to look these things up, but I still always quote my VIN number when I buy online (eg. MB Newcastle eBay store)
Yep it is vaguely interesting and can give a general view of how which bits go where and how they are attached. It's also useful if you go into an MB parts department and avoids the sometimes interminable wait while the parts guy looks up the relevant bit you want. Even better if you can take in a copy of the parts diagram and can say can I have one of those please.

The restriction of access to manufacturer parts information has the effect of turning any modern Mercedes car into a " black box" to their enthusiast owner or any garage attempting repair or even routine maintenance. :(

I must admit, I made use of the exploded diagram on the Nemigaparts website when I removed my front bumper to replace the lower grille.
It was handy for tracking down the inevitable annoying hidden fasteners.

Turns out that the Russian vodka is actually made and bottled in the UK!

The Smirnoff brand name is owned by the British company Diageo which is not a household name but they own many other top brands like Guinness.

As a Diageo shareholder (who wouldn't be when they own Guinness) I was feeling a bit guilty but it's a very long time since Smirnoff was a Russian Vodka although it did originate there. It's really no different from many "German" beers and lagers which are brewed in the UK.

I've frequently made use of the diagrams when doing work on MB vehicles.
Also - The part numbers for spares - although you have to use them intelligently.

Wrong . It is in fact one of very few widely available (in UK) Vodkas actually made in Russia. A Russian engineer I worked with (on more than one occasion) years ago told me it was the only Vodka he drank when working away from home based on the fact that the factory that makes it is in St Petersburg...Russia.

Whilst the UK legislation has dipped a (very small) toe into the Right to Repair issue, it's got a long way to go yet. Other countries seem to be ahead of us. I recently read that one state in the US (Mass?) has passed legislation forcing car manufacturers to release repair manuals etc to users. It's about time the same happened here. Not allowing or making it very difficult for MB owners to access part numbers to order replacement items from MB is nonsense and I suspect that it will cause some to go elsewhere.

According to my trusted Indy, when they order parts from the local dealership, MB will quote and supply, but refuse point blank to give out the part number in advance. The fact that in a lot of cases, the number is stamped on the part seems to have escaped them. :dk:

It will be to stop the, using the dealer for parts numbers @nd then buying them elsewhere. I can understand why they wouldn’t want to do that.
